I have had the headlamp motors out and apart ... and they all move by hand freely. I need to get my head around the 1980s wiring and figure out why they don't work now.

The cooling system, it seems a lifetime ago I put the radiator together. finally got a chance to plum it all in, and it holds coolant. 100 Points to whoever can guess what the car the header tank came from??

Right..... SO my recent problem. probably....nope...definatly my fault. so when putting things back together I purchased an original Lotus Excel Clutch master cylinder. Lazy... but easy. it fits and .... there was a chance that it would work the slave cylinder for the Volvo M90 Gearbox..... well after plumbing it in and bleeding it. you'd guessed it, it hasn't got enough to move the slave cylinder. so when the engine is running I cannot get a gear, back to the drawing board.

It's progressing nicely.
To determine what clutch master cylinder you need you need to know the volvo master cyl diameter and travel from this you can calculate the volume of fluid displaced. Then come up with a combination that fits the Lotus and displaces the same.
It looks like the bulkhead mount might be the same as the std girling cylinder fitted to virtually every 60's and 70's british car which is available in a variety of bores.

The volvo clutch master is 19mm bore, would a volvo 240 one with its integrated reservoir fit in the space you have? The clutch master bores and the slaves are the same for a volvo 240/740/940.
Cheers
