Once upon a time an idiot (that would be me) dragged an old Mini out of a Welsh field, it didn't look too bad Mmm, maybe just a little crusty You get the picture and a freaking very long time later (12.5yrs in fact) An almost finished car, I was going to wait until it was done but I thought I'd share now before another decade goes by. We have all mod cons, 4 pot disc brakes, a heated rear window, electric windscreen washers, an alternator, illuminated rear storage bins

Mrbounce, they are from Force Racing, a 4.5x10 split rim Mamba with a +28mm offset. Normally they are a deeper dish 5 or 6 inch rim. After speaking with Carl he was sure he could do them so that I wouldn't need arches and still run Minifin spaced drums on the rear and Minisport 4Pot alloy calipers upfront I needed to fit 50mm wheel studs to the front and 60mm to the rear but that was an easy job to do www.force-racing.co.uk/wheels/force-racing-10-wheels/product/mamba/

What...12.5 years? Not that long then. My Mini is still not finished after 19 years! I was on Mini Mag and said in 2 years and my better half said 9 years. This year was that 9th year. It is road legal, taxed and drivable. I'm ironing out teething problems, then get it painted. So you done very well.

Nice looking resto, though I must admit, I quite like the look of the original wheels & trims.
What engine did you start off with, 850/998/1098cc?

The original engine was 3/4 of a 850 as piston 3 had made a bid for freedom, I sourced a pre A+ 998 block to build the 1046 so it was in keeping with the period

Beautiful restoration, you must be proud. It’s easy to lose the time scale when tackling these type of restorations. My current car i have had for seven years but a lot of that time I didn’t do anything. The one i had before that a 1600E i had for ten years, i got so sick of it after doing a LOT of welding that one weekend in a moment of madness i took the grinder to it and cut it up!!! Back to your car, it’s very nearly finished, or are they ever finished? I am very envious, i had a number of minis when i was in my teens and twenties. I wish i had one now. All the best, Norman

That looks lovely. My Mini came off the road in about 2005 for a slipping clutch. After the verto flywheel refused to budge I ended up ripping the whole drive train out and fitting a Vauxhall C16XE. Probably only done a couple of hundred miles since I ‘finished’ it. Couple of persistent wiring issues spoiled my enjoyment of it but think I got to the bottom of it just before I flew to Australia so it’s just been sat for 2 years now. I’ve been drawing up a list of other things I want to do to it when I get back so who knows how much longer it’ll be before it’s on the road again?
