If you want to be paid for a weigh ticket, load the back up with scrap and the before / after across the bridge will give you the number and some cash for the scrap... Fingers crossed on the MOT ! James Good thinking there James. And thank you. Car valued at £3500.00 (yes it cost a bit more than that in labour and parts to build) excess at £150.00 and limited to 1000 miles per year, or 1600km per year which sounds like very little, but keeping in mind it is a No 3 car behind the company car and Chevy S10 and if I wanted more miles I can call and alter the policy. How many miles/kms do You do with No.2 in a year? Don't You have something like a plate swap scheme for use with several cars? Switzerland has a very good system for that, germany has a very stupid one, some bureaucrat's head birth with hardly any advantages. See below. Good work Grizz and good luck with the MOT Don't You have something like a plate swap scheme for use with several cars? Switzerland has a very good system for that, germany has a very stupid one, some bureaucrat's head birth with hardly any advantages. In the UK we insure each car individually, as it's Grizz's 3rd car the risk is seen as low as he won't use it too much so the price goes down. We also have a yearly MOT like the tuv for each car. We then have to pay an individual tax for each car to use or even park on the road and tell the authorities if we park it off the road. But need a valid MOT and insurance to Tax a car. Thank you Chris. Grizz, I wonder if a bit of use (after MOT) will improve the running of the engine and the rest of the drive train. I do not know how long ago it was used really (in the MX5 form) and was really good warm. Thom Hi Thom, Agree there. Probably not run since at least 2018 and looking at the bits I have replaced, minimal servicing. "Italian tune-up" Yup.

I would see if there are any fault codes in it, I'm not sure what the early mk2 had if it's the same diagnostic set up as the mk1's it's cheap and easy to do, video below explains it well. If it has a OBD2 port then a £10 reader from ebay will do the job easily. Thanks for that Kevin. Really easy instructions. Thinking about it a first step might be to disconnect the battery and leave it for 10 minutes, this clears all the codes and re-sets the engine control module to factory defaults. The car has had the battery on and off so many times the last 18 months, I wonder if that is not part of the actual problem. We will see what driving does for it.

Did a few small final jobs tonight after work. Glued panels in place, including the surround on the instrument cluster.. Plus I made a masking tape sign for the fog light switch. And finally a small, overdue job…. Got the wiring loom in the cab wrapped and tucked away. So tomorrow morning I will test lights etc all one more time, you know how stuff stops working to or from the test station. As mentioned before, fingers crossed that I have managed to check all the checks. .

Thanks mate. Thank you Tony. I guess I should have used GOOGLE ehhh. Thank you for that. Paul Y will be able to get to them now. I was tempted to go get the front end aligned before the MOT, but the shop is further away than the MOT station and ANPR cameras do not negotiate. Spoke to these guys on the phone because the last time I used them, they were exemplary. Remember this……? So after filling the galactic sized tank with enough fuel to run 10 Smart cars for a month, I headed down to Strood to get the wheels aligned but typically the original £30.00 offer was not available as they did not have the details for the Chevy Blazer in their system. They not so friendly guy behind the counter suggested I go to another shop. So off to STS I went. Friendly, knowledgeable guys, relieved me of £65.00 and sent me off with a truck that felt completely different to the one I had taken there. WIN !! The results spoke for themselves. .

28 August 2020 is when I started this thread. Nearly 580k views just on Retro Rides, and at one point it was over 1000 views per day. I am not sure many threads get that sort of viewership or interest. There are a bunch of other forums I contribute to and they all had high viewerships and interest I would guess the global views are well beyond 800k over 2 years. This build was a very singleminded vision of something I had wanted to do for a long time……… BUT, so many people from Siberia to Southampton and Auckland to Arkansas Cape Town to Cairo contributed in so many ways. Materially with parts, specialised tools (just think Void Bush Tool), machining and fabrication, thanks nickwheeler and a bunch of others. Anyone who feels forgotten or missed out, here is your thank you. So today I actually drove the car for the first time, going beyond 3rd gear, which was as much as I dared do out on the farm road. I drove to the scrapyard where so many bits of steel and scrap has come from over the years for various projects. Onto the Weigh Bridge. Me inside (120kg) and about 35-40 litres of petrol. Result, you do the maths. 900kg minus me, gives a decent light weight. From there it was over to the test station, a bit early, but rather that than late. And onto the ramp. They have a lowered ramp to get abnormally low stuff onto for testing. And up they went. All four the testers in the centre came to take a look, pointing a few things they liked, out. One thing that became apparent once the front crossmember was in the air and the wheels and bearing were being inspected was that though within tolerance, the passenger side wheel bearing needed to be tightened or replaced. Other than that, the comments ranged from awesome, cool build and tidy installation to I wish I could drive this on a track. High praise indeed. I will take out road tax next month from the 1st of March as paying a months tax for one days use makes no sense. I will check out and probably replace the front wheel bearings on both sides. Also take it for full alignment on a digital machine. Tonight I am really pleased, thankful and happy for all this community and helpers have helped me,create and achieve. Thanks again. .

Brilliant news Grizz, been watching from the start. Make sure you get out and drive it, that's the reward for all of the tinkering.

Congratulations. Well done indeed for keeping at it and getting your vision into reality. I know you have had willing assistance from all over, but it’s been your project and idea, and it would still be sat full of junk and leaves around the back of a Scottish industrial unit if you hadn’t seen the potential in it.
You need to put some before-and-after photos together. It’s quite incredible just how far it’s come from the remains you began with. 👍👍

Well done Rian! It must have been an amazing feeling to get that MOT after all the hard work that went into it. I just went back to the beginning of your thread and reminded myself of how bad it looked when you first saw it.....you've done a cracking job 👍🏻 I've said it already, but summer's just round the corner, so you'll at last be able to get out and enjoy it. But then, knowing you, you'll probably have another project or two on the go to keep you busy.
