Get some ear defenders and safety glasses on grizz. Only thinking of your health. If he prefers the pan-african-prefered PPE-free style methods... let him. No no, just joking, but I saw a few documentations on garage work in other countries, not just africa, but I guess Pakistan was featured elsewhere in this forum recently. Strange to say the least.

I guess this kinda fits in here because it stole my day of possibly attacking the bushes. On the road by 06.30 Some slow bits…. Eventually nearly there. Meet Donna, she followed me all over, head on shoulder. Such a sweet horse. Eventually after unloading, a decent walk around and dicussing a ton of logistics, we headed home to Leatherhead and London. Back down South delivering the trailer to the yard it came from, a load of what is presumed to be a load of film props. .

On a different front, mate Craig gave me (traded for stuff) a 5 liter can of white Cellulose paint yesterday, ostensibly to paint the Rezin Rockit once it is completed as the gel coat on it is dead and crazwd in places. I know very little about paint and what goes where. or which you should avoid. Do I blow the fiberglass body over in this stuff, or rather avoid using it, due to its properties and possibly the type and amout of prep involved. Need to have another coffee, then scrape together all my resolve and go make a start on bushing the suspension parts. Raining here at themoment…. Ooohhh, we have a carport. C No excuses.

For the Rezin Rockit bodywork/gelcoat the best bet would be to see what blackpopracing has to say on the matter. As he has repaired quite a bit of it on his thread with very good results As for that paint being suitable, I've no idea. But we used to use MKPE stuff years ago with good results at work Nice result with tweaking the rollbar tho grizz! That worked out rather well

Probably more of a Pony Express question. But worth asking in here too. Anyone live anywhere close by, near here that could collect and stash in a corner, or even help with getting it South? It is one of those “Free” things that would work perfectly in this project. Collection would be South Wheatley, RETFORD near Sheffield. Dang….. That would be great for the Rezin Rockit build as the floor was hacked and repaired before and needs more reinforcing under the seats. Sitting scratching my head here.

If the gel coat is crazed then you will have to dig it out and refinish before going anywhere near it with paint ...

Well, no, not really ... like paint it will show through and the gel coat is still compromised ...

On the paint the basic process I use on the elan is.
1. Grind back any areas of cracking and cover area with tissue and resin. (If it's realy bad some people tissue the whole panel)
2.Smooth with a flexible filler keep rubbing back and re-doing etc until right shape.
3.Prime with epoxy
4.cut back and re-prime as required (I do it all in epoxy as it doesen't absorb water)
5. Topcoat
Doing this has always worked for me,I'm sure there are other methods as well.

Problem is that bedliner is not easily reversible.

Yep there's a good reason pro fiberglass paint jobs cost upwards of 5 grand, I'd be inclined to leave it as it is and add some graphics and stickers to cover the worst.

Started late yesterday. Only made it to the garage by 12.00 and came out just after 18.00 Some progress was fast, some ballachingly slow……. Making stuff up and learning as I go along is interesting and actually really enjoyable. So armed with the book from nickwheeler I sat down and started to try understand what went where. First job, identify and lay out the bushes. Started easy enough, undo the axle side and try get to the Void bush. Problem no 1….. Bolt completely seized in the bush sleeve and not moving, despite all the tools and force available. Even the G-clamp destroying itself when trying to shift the bolt. Then managed to break off a drill bit inside the rubber….. Joy ! Followed by a burning, torch, swapped this one for my garden weed burner, usually used for my woodwork branding. Mickey had come around in his slippers to see what I was up to. Result, followed by Mr Grinder to cut the gead off the bolt as it was not relinquishing the sleeve. The result of a lot of BFH action. This was after no 2 went easy. Still a load of rust, but at least not like the first one. Repaired and rebent the metal to standard afterward. Next job was to use the Void Bush tool sent to me almost a year ago to use to pull the bushes from the rear axle. Using the impact wrench released them, but it was an absolute ballache. After burning out the rubber, the sleeve was left to pull, so I started with tht one. Magic. Both Void Bushes done. Note the amount of rust in the holes. Next up was the bushes in the arms, so onto paulf ‘s press. These are not easy as they are quite thin and the press tools are specific sizes. After much more swearing, skew pressing, popping out etc, I had all of these…… And these were ready, well, they need to be fine sanded to clean them out before fitting the new bushes. Oh…… And of course I need to go buy a replacement nut and bolt for the one destroyed. Rain and a load of work ahead.

So not everything is as rosy as it seems. I managed to “break” the Void Bush tool that had been loaned to me by a complete stranger. So I need to find a new one, or a replacement tail end, threaded part if someone has one to sell. Either the whole tool as pictured, or the stripped part. The thread in the tail end stripped itself out completely on the second bush, I had removed some thread from about an inch or so up the bolt shaft when I started on the first sleeve pull, as it would not progress beyond that. I will post a wanted ad up on RetroRides to see if someone has one to sell, alternately I will go to Ebay and see what they have on there, though it seems these things are listed for different cars etc. So it may end up being better to let you buy one and then reimbursing you via Paypal or transfer, if that works for you. Please PM if you have something to sell or advice to share.

What a pain for you Rian! I suppose at least you got them out beforehand. Still not ideal though. With regard to the fibreglass and repairs, I will just leave you a couple of pictures to advise that it's probably best left alone. This was midway through sorting the front end on the Midas. It very nearly broke me and took me months. Granted that this an extreme example but you do end up chasing crack after crack...
