My suspension suggestion was based on the possibility your keeping the front end cortina ?? Which I believe it is And the rear is possibly mk2 escort ?? I have no idea what is fitted Dan but will just repair and replace as far as I can go. Hopefully its still all good enough. Fingers crossed.

If sitting in it is anything like being in a Seven-type car with no sidescreens, anything above 30mph means the wind is being forced up your nostrils rather faster than you like it to be, you have to keep the offisde eye shut to avoid the eyeball being blown out, and anything less than skin tight lycra billows up and around in a most disconcerting manner . . . The vertical screen causes lots of disturbance to the air - less occurs with the screen removed! But unless you are wearing decent eye protection, anything coming towards you, small stones kicked up, insects, rain drops, becomes rather worrying! Brilliant. You just made me chuckle at your accurate description I would love to cut the screen down by as much as 3 inches or 100mm and to just pull the top back by as much as 100mm to create the illusion of a flying brick.

Fingers crossed. from the pictures posted so far it looks like it's all cortina with coil springs front and rear which will make lowering a much simpler operation. (air sprngs would also be an relatively easy fit)

Lunch time action. Micky loves this sort of thing. Today we were back to full social distancing, and it felt so stupid for me to wear a face covering as he is isolating. Rear end, looks different, coz it is. Front again So the next trick will be finding some 60mm to 70mm Outside diameter pipe and a pipe bender to make a new roll bar, differently configured. More in a bit.

So after all the stuff I did the last few days, yesterday afternoon was also time for relaxing. So I went to the garage and pulled out some of the stripes I had put on the Blazer Thought it worth playing about a bit.. AND FOR THE PHOTOSHOP KINGS.......... Knock yourself out Lowered, coloured, plain, GOLD WHEELS, change the wheels outright, steels, alloys. Go on.\ One of my colour schemes will be along this line. Sticking to the white as primary colour. Star Gasoline Racing ? So there you go team. Show us what you have.

Ask exhaust bending guys (US car scene). They can probably help you with pipe bending. Thom
ps: looks great now, would not lower it too much. Wheels look great, only need 70 or 80 series M+S tyres.

That cage looks scrap, if your looking to save weight and add lightness, might I suggest a more braced cage in T45 which is both light and strong, bars that extend down the windscreen pillar to the chassis and a bar across the top and behind the dashboard and a cross brace for the belts to pick up at roughly shoulder height at the rear. I'm sure that somewhere on the net I've seen sites that allow you to check stresses in your chosen design. Looking forward to the engine choice and power output.

Are you looking at copart for a crash damaged car (rear or rolled over or something) for the donor? Mazda? Or are you still thinking of alternative ideas? The rockit is v light - perhaps a 1.0 ecoboost from a crashed fiesta or something (still gives 123 or if you're really lucky the 138bhp version) might fit the bill? Light, powerful etc. Only issue is I think they look a bit tall. Light? maybe. Powerful? have you driven one? A tiny turbo makes you think it's got some power, until it runs out of puff before 4000rpm. The next 2000rpm is possible, but it's like revving an Essex: earplugs on and mechanical sympathy left at home. Then you lift off, and the heavy flywheel reveals itself: there is NO engine braking. At idle, it's like sitting on a cement mixer full of bricks. Horrible, horrible things. That's in a Focus, I dread to think what the Mondeo is like.

Personally for the utilitarian look I’d stick to white and black combos for a jeep style but if you fancy having fun with a livery then it screams camel Dakar rally style to me. Maybe over played and passe though?

I've had 4 125ps ecoboost fiestas and they are brilliant, certainly don't run out of puff or sound rough above 4000rpm, latest one is a mild hybrid and pulls even better than the previous ones. (now also has plenty of engine braking thanks to the hybrid part)
It would be quite an undertakng to get one working in this though you would need to fit most of the rest of the donor or go to expensive direct injection aftermarket.

Opinions again. I do not have any of the stuff needed yet, and not given the it a lot of technical consideration. But. I a, thinking a simple, hinged pipe bar where the yellow masking tape lies. Then attached to it, a racing style window net (re-used, recycled) hanging down on a 5mm to 10mm Max rod shaped frame for it to be attached to. 99% visual, racer style. Not really an airbag or soft plush cushion. I also thought that buying some nylon webbing and stitching it all together by hand was an option, albeit not a clever one. Opinions? Magnets in the bottom of the netting to keep it secured maybe?

Wow, Rian, I've just spent another hour catching up on the fastest growing thread on the Internet and boy was it worth it to see the boyish grins on your face. It's been a while! To be truly functional, the rollbar needs to be mounted much more securely than 2 bolts on a skinny plate. As for size you may want to check sizes of tubing bender dies as most are made to do 2" as a maximum or around 50mm. I would recommendt at least .120"/3mm wall thickness for the same safety and strength reason. Most racing bodies recommend a minimum of 36 sq in of mounting plate, but with a fibre body, a 10mmx75mmx75mm plate welded to the frame should suffice leaving room for 4 threaded holes to bolt the rollbar to. I would really recommend going with a similar rollcage like the example you pictured in orange for chassis strength and safety.
