Trust me, it made my day too.

I was about to start a training session and Journal Club with a group of about 20 junior doctors and consultants when the boss called to “welcome me to the team”

I had picked up a small little nut, maybe 6mm size, and showed it to the group, saying that sometimes the smallest nuts keep things going.

I am certainly thankful to have a job, as there is no guarantee in these redundancies based on past performance.




Burnouts and beer.

Weirdly, knowing one has a job, solves part of the stress, knowing I now have to start working some big London training hospitals again, meaning 2 hours in and 2.5 hours minimum commute home at a minimum at night….. grinds my grindy bits.

Still, I did it successfully before, just need to do it again.



Absolutely, and to be honest, they become even more important as they are the medication we need after a rough day or week.

I never take my foot off the gas when these processes kick in, but I know for a fact some colleagues just stop working, one went out the country for 10 days on holiday, faking the whole thing with remote engagement via Teams etc.

These is usually a lot of damage to morale and motivation, but they know best….. management, that is.

I just try keep my nose clean, up my productivity so there is even less of a light on me.

But……… I also know how many colleagues took their foot off the gas and slowed right down the moment the consultation was announced.

It angers me, because some were already freeloaders. And yes, it does not take a genius to identify them.

I have only my own conscience to live with, and my track record has always shown that it can be kept clear.

I do hope the ones who were unsuccessful, do find something fast.

I think my industry is pretty much like that all over, so you would pretty much trade one company for another.

And leaving the industry is not in my plans at this point.





Better news, added to keeping the job and expected to do more than before, with less resources, is that there is a small salary adjustment from November, certainly beats a kick in the teeth.
