I always thought that the J o’ G to LE from sunset to sunrise that Clarkson did years ago in a diesel XF Jag would be fun.

Set off in June at sunrise and the sun don’t set up here until 10pm
You would have 15 or 16 hours of sunlight

Seem to recall it was West to East to tie in with the sunset/sunrise thing Yeah furthest point East (Lowestoft Ness) to furthest point west Lands End English main land only. Other things I've mused upon before Highest point to lowest point (Scalfell Pike to Holme Fen) Southern to Northern (Lizard Cove to Marshall Meadows Bay) or a combination of North South East West lol Southern most point to Western most is a journey I've actually done. All 35 miles of it  (still takes a fair time mind you....) Maybe an interesting one would be from the geographic centre of England (Lindley Hall Farm, Leicestershire) to each point According to Google: North - 258 miles 4hrs 20mins South - 302 miles 5hrs 9mins East - 165 Miles 3hrs 7mins West - 306 Miles 5hrs 10mins Actually a bit of an easy one for the East leg.......... Incidentally Land's End to John 'o Groats isn't the most northerly point, Dunnett Head is....... |

You really forget how big the US is. We drove from Vegas to the Gran Canyon which on the map looked like it was 5 minutes down the road not the 4.5 traffic free drive it actually was!
As has already been mentioned a few times its not the challenge it once, doing it in an uber reliable and powerful car with all the mod cons obviously make that 25/26 hours a little easier. Still an achievement if you ignore all the law breaking!
In our VW T5 I can happily drive for 12-14 hours per day if we are crossing Europe. Before I had it remapped it had 90bhp which isn't really enough for a 2 ton+ vehicle. I had to do a lot of forward planning for over takes or inclines and anyone who has driven something really underpowered can appreciate dropping down gears only to watch that speedo needle keep falling! I had to concentrate so much that driving for anything over 6 hours was really hard work. With the remap its a doddle, a prod of the accelerator is all that overtake or hill requires now.
Maybe someone should do it in a Series Landrover? That would really be an achievement!

At one of the shows a couple of years ago there was a pair from scandinavia, who had driven an original series 3 diesel landy across their continent to a ferry, came across to Hull and then drove across the UK to Newbury for the sort out, and when it finished they were driving the same way home
Only really appreciated by people who have driven a 2.25 diesel, with original seats😳
