One of the jobs I have to do on my Austin Maxi is to replace the exterior door window seals. The OE part went NLA decades ago and i have been advised to remove the old seal completely and replace it with an interior seal cut and trimmed to fit and glue it to the door trim around the door window. Can anybody suggest a suitable adhesive for this please?
Thanks, Adrian.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean but I used this on the rear window of my A4 Convertible, cleaned as much of the old stuff off as I could then applied and clamped the window between 2 pieces of wood and it was perfect, didn't leak and it was easy enough to trim with a sharp Stanley blade.

Basicly, i need a flexible adhesive that will glue the black soft polypropalene seal to the metal door !

Maybe not ideal but I like Sikaflex, that's what I would use with no access to specialist 2k adhesive with the correct applicator etc.
"Sikaflex-221 bonds well to a wide variety of substrates and is suitable for making permanent elastic seals of high adhesive strength. Suitable substrate materials are wood, metals, metal primers and paint coatings (2-c systems), ceramic materials and plastics"
There are various types available, including for marine use, so it's probably worth a bit of research to find the most suitable one.
Saying that, I stuck a fiberglass skin on the tailgate of my truck with Tigerseal and it's going nowhere.

Been messing about sorting these on my 'Crabs (You've got our doors!). I used Evostik and replicated the wire staples with good results.
Would be interested to see which interior seal you're using.

I'm using the Maxi interior door seal on the outside. What sort of Bostik did you use ?

Sorry Adrian, missed your reply. Just the ordinary brown Evostik contact adhesive. Used properly it's tenacious stuff. Seals are still on three years later.

I used double sided foam tape to re-attach the outer door seal on my Volvo. The seals are normally held in place with a metal channel which on my car had rusted through in a few places. I decided the easiest method of fixing it was to remove all of the remaining channel and stick the trim back in place after repainting the top of the door. I'm surprised it's still attached to be honest as it's been there quite a few years now and it was only stuff I got from Maplins.
It depends on the shape of the seal really but you can get some super sticky stuff now for holding spoilers and mud flaps etc on.

Chris, No worries and thanks for replying. Does the door trim come off easily ?? Adrian. Remove clip, pull the top squarish corner down and in, lift and slide and it'll come away. So long as you don't kink it, it'll flex fully back into shape when you refit. BTW, if it doesn't want to fit back on easily, check the liner in the door glass channel. It may need pushing out of the way as you refit.
Chris.
