I could go on forever about the bits you CAN'T get for Dolomites!
Steel front wings, NOS, when you can find them are over £300 each and climbing, front valance panel, £500 apiece NOS, O/S/R wing, name your price, they are virtually extinct. Quarterlight rubbers front and rear, cloth upholstery material is only held by one supplier and they hold it to ransom, they won't sell the cloth, you have to pay THEM their price to put it on your seats. Later Sprint 7/16" UNF wheel studs are completely unobtainable and early Sprint 3/8" wheel nuts go for upwards of £100 a set of 16, USED! Occaisionally you'll get 1 or 2 new ones turn up on ebay @ £30 each. In the last few weeks, I put a NOS headlamp eyebrow panel on ebay ( a small curved panel only about 9" by 3") for £100 and it sold without bothering with offers in 3 hours flat. You can get a remanufactured replica of this panel, but a) it doesn't fit very well and b) it's £117 +vat!
And that's to name but a few, The club has investigated getting new wings made, but there are 24 press tools involved in producing a pair, only about half of the original press tools still exist and those that have survived are old, tired and water damaged from years of outside storage, when they were considered as scrap only. We've has GRP replicas made and very nice they are too, with the bucks made from NOS wings. But the concours boys won't use them!

Find me one of the (reportedly) eight sets of Hilborn mechanical fuel injection sets made for the Daimler 2.5 Hemi V8 😉 One set is known to have survived, but owner is not selling last time I asked 😅

Have you ever gone looking for a part and try as you might it simply doesn’t exist or is sooo expensive you cannot justify it. I’m currently looking for a seal for the breather valve on my Audi 80 part number 039103500 if you fancy having a go. The only place I can find this tiny piece of rubber is Audi tradition and it’s €40!!!! The one I have is badly damaged but is just about doing it’s job. But has anyone else had this problem You can normally order parts from Audi Heritage through your local main dealer, however currently they are not processing orders from dealers just direct customers. If you can wait for this to change it might make it cheeper for you.

Honda integra dc2 rear abs sensor.
Breakers used to have them around £15 each. Honda has them for £250 + vat.
Needed one last year for the mot. Took 8 months of looking on eBay et al but nothing. Finally admitted defeat as the mot was getting nearer and went to Honda but all sold! Nothing left.
Finally found a place in America with new old stock.
Wasn’t cheap. So bought two and sold the other one on eBay. It made it a bit easier on the wallet.

There was a factory fit EFI manifold from a USA (possibly California only) alliance (renault) 1397cc engine that fits the renault 5 gt turbo engine. Part numbers available but ive never seen one available in 10 years of browsing. I know of one person who has one and I'm pretty sure he lives in OZ. Can't PhilA help out?

This thread actually made me check over on the us renault site where i had posted a few times. I had been given an email address to contact someone, so i did, they think they have one. So say it was only fitted for one year. A 1 year 1 state in the USA product, certainly up there with unicorn poop.

I read recently that finding certain SAAB parts is getting ... interesting. My NG900 was sometimes tricky because they changed so many parts ever so slightly on the 9-3. My later 9-3 was no problem. Most of it is Vectra anyway and there are plenty of people breaking them.

Steve My dad had a Dolomite probably 35 years ago and getting a front wing was a battle then. Someone reversed into it, bending it slightly. It ended up being beaten straightish and filled because a new panel was too expensive. The other thing I've always needed is a crystal ball to see when things will turn into unobtanium. I laugh when I think of the fairly rust free Capri shell that brought in ten quid for scrap. I took a set of Laser wheels to the tip because I couldn't even get a tenner for them.

Try getting hold of a new seal for the large TR7 petrol cap. This was the bigger one that was only made for the first 18 months or so on the Early fixed-head TR7 coupes before being replaced with a similarly shaped but much smaller item. None of the Triumph specialists stock them, and finding an actual cap with a serviceable seal just isn't going to happen. I ended up having to sign up to a TR7 Forum when I found out that the club were making them and had only a few left. It wasn't expensive but it did take me 6 1/2 years to find. As you can see, the original seal was somewhat... poor

No one knew where ford prices would be come today. My mates went through so many fiestas and escorts as they were so cheap, £400 for a mint lower mile mk3 escort is one example. At the time everyone thought that was way too much. You say that, but 10 year old me realised that would disappear. I remember being in my mums car and realising that mk3/4 escorts were as common as mk4/5 cortina’s had been a few years before and that in a few years they would also vanish - and they did. I used to wish I could buy up all of them to stop people scrapping them! I remember looking for new company cars with my dad and thinking how crazy the prices were for cars that I didn’t like as much as old fords. Unfortunately at the time my pocket money wouldn’t stretch . Also the amount being banger raced well into the 00’s was shocking...
