Well , started car up . no charge ...yes ! it was free !! ok ok , no charge from the alternator , took it off and examine it , and it looks as if the diodes are poorly , so my good freind martin gave me a ford one off a transit connect 2011. spent friday making new brackets , then went to wire it up , er , ok , so i never knew about "smart charging alternators " which means i have no light ,and might work if i just connect the red wire and the charge wire .poxy ford thing !! regards robert

morning lieblings , Well in the chase for the holy grail that is a charging alternator , progress has been made . firstly , here is the ford smart charge alternator , so anyone rushing away from the scrappy , sniggering in glee at their lucky find , can see they got a duffer ,and take it back without spending a day making mounting brackets .. it can just Smart OFF ! here is is hiding its awful secret .. just before i tried to use it . However , after that palava , i had a second look at the huge old fashioned other jag one i had , and i realised , with a bit of jiggery pokery , i might be able to fit it after all , it would be a few mm forward of ideal but hey... After more fun with spacers and stuff , i managed to wind on the 10mm too short belt , and fire up the old girl ,lo and behold .. a little blip got me this .. and i let it settle to tickover ... and still had goodness... my base battery voltage with no alternator was 12.2v running .so all good . just waiting for yet another 10mm longer belt to arrive so i am not putting 17,000 tons pressure on the old water pump spindle . while i waited for my belt of rubber (but not in a conservative politician sort of way) i had a tinker with the front lights . the roll call went thus, o/s headlight ,dip working , main not . indicator not . fog light ,working. n/s headlight.. nothing . fog light ..nothing. indicator ..nothing. i set too on the n/s indicator , and found it was rusted up and the spring was jammed down , oh ,and it had a twin element staggered pins stop tail lamp bulb in where a normal single element bulb should be ..noice . i took it apart by levering open the back , and lubed it up , and popped in a new bulb ,and voila .. oh also cleaned the lens , and i like the colour .. pullled off the headlight ,and found the thing looked like it had been submerged , for decades , and the adjuster on one side had been snapped off , more sanding and lubing ,and the pre focus bulb worked again .. did the same on the rest of the lights , and all now working apart from the headlight on the o/s which has a dip element broken , so i need a new bpf 414 bulb .... oh ,and yes the other indicator had a wrong bulb too.. but now its full to the brim with yummy correct bulb goodness . regards robert

I think there's an issue with Robert's hosting site security certificate, you can't directly view the images from the links you get a security a warning.

Me too.
Are you sure the twin filament bulbs aren't the correct fitment?
Where's your sidelight?
My Standard 10 has a front light which doubles as sidelight and indicator. Though with a clear lens.

The 1951 Armstrong-Siddely wiring diagram for this (Lucas) shows no provision for flashing indicator lights, only side lights and dip/main beam lamps. If they were retrofit then up to '65 they can be white/white and the turn signal integrated with the parking light. This may be the case if it originally had trafficator arms.

Is it just me, or are the images failing to load? As others have said, the images are now viewable in all thier orangey, over tensioned, encrusted, but functional glory. Thank goodness.

Still amused that Licas did in a big relay exactly what is done in my indicator switch.
Maybe there was some patent nonsense involved.
You should put the clear lenses on the back and do what my new truck does- red light for brake which turns amber and flashes if I put on the indicators.

hello chaps, well a lot of non temptress stuff going on , but i did manage to get down the scrappy , and hoicked a bit off the car .. can you tell whats missing ? yup , i snarffleld the entire two section prop ,and centre mount , this means i can make up bits for the 2nd gearbox fitment , without having to immobilise the car . I also got the n/s rear door lock , i hope to adapt that to the drivers door . Also , i found the remains of the boot badge , and brought it home, i had a slight problem trying to work out where the loose letters fitted in this piccy.. then i realised my mistake ,the badge was really this one .. ppppft. and then ,a nice bloke on the fb AS page offered me a boot lid , but it was as rusty as mine , and would you believe it had a badge on it .. and he's only going to send it to me ! very kind indeed. in other news i had a go at polishing my big lights , before .. after ... lashed out 15 quid on 60w halogen bpf bulbs too . And,speaking of which , whoever decided to use a push bike switch for the dip main needs exsanguinating !(sp) dinky little thing ... was more likely to put both on at once .Luckily i had a rover 100 black stonko switch , so wired that in , and ,after a lot of trial and error i now have fogs and dip and main h/lights all working , as well as tail lights and brake lights . bit stuck on the indicators , and may well update them to an extra yellow light at the back nd wire them normally . Having got the front lights working i could put the rad and fan back in ,so all start up able again . tinckety tonk regards robert
