well not a lot of progress this week , due to me having that experience we all know and love ,
the feeling someone has nail gunned a 6"nail into the lowest vertebra gap ,
and then connected it to 240v ac mains current for a few days .
However , before hand what i have got done is this ...
to get reverse gear i hoicked off the linkage , and it looked like this ..
that bit in the tube ,is where there should be a rubber bush , which seems to have turned into rubber soup.
i cleaned off a impressive amount of goook..
best thing you can find is a lot of greasy stuff , it means stuff comes undone...which it did .
wizzed up a nylon bush from an old bike handlebar bung ,and whopped it all together ..
crawled back underneath ,fixed it on and, hurrah, mr reverse arrived to take a bow.
next i took a wander down the yard ,and found some bits ..
those bits are the chrome surrounds for the rear tail lights , lucas 464 lenses , god knows where i'll find those , i may try to make some flat lenses from red glass.
also there is this lovely deco light for the inner roof..
the switch actually works .
nextfully , bearing in mind the weather forecast said it would be 1 c on saturday , not trusting that i drained the block , and was pleased to see the water come out this clean ..
just as well, it tuned out to be -2.4 c !
lastly , i bought a bit of veneer of ebay for 12 quid , and had a go at covering the instrument binnacle , so i can temporarily assemble and install the dash ..
here's the process..
pva'd both surfaces , let it dry , then used a hot iron to iron the veneer on ..
then used these tools..
to make it like this ..
next is to varnish it , a million times.
boy oh boy is that veneer brittle .lost one little chip on the edge....but could be worse.
oh phil i had a good look for other badges , but this is the only one i could find ...
following a program of licorice pills , robax pills ,hot bath every day , and forcing my agonised body to walk 2 miles the last two days , means today i could get to the shops for food , so hopefully i can walk better tomorrow and do a bit of pottering.
i think leaning over engine bays is on hold for a while. oh , and trying to pull 1.7 tons of car onto a plank while trying to push a wedge under the tyre with my foot may be vetoed as well lol.
vaya con dios ..
regards
robert
