Thanks Glen , apart from massively overdoing the single handed moving of tons of spares and biulding materials over christmas , to the point i tore a finger tendon ,that believe it or not, made a sound just like a snapping twig , and then promptly passing out in front of my freind who just failed to catch me before my head his the table..all's well ! Ouch! I take it you've not been fitted with a k-wire while that heals then? I imagine it would make fettling manifolds a little bit tricky. Keep up the good work. I am loving this thread!

My worst worry about dying is my wife selling my stuff for what I told her it cost...

I am loving this thread! i have no idea what that is Clamity lol. it happened a few weeks ago now , i have 90 % strength in it , it does blimmen ache if i try to hold onto things for too long , and i cannot curl the finger to the palm all the way , but i think its getting there , i didn't want to bother the surgery with it since they are over the top busy ,c19 wise . basically it just feels well bruised from the palm to the first knuckle. It was the noise that was a shock , i was trying to pull on a very old sized roller door .and it just went SNAP like breaking a twig for kindling ...very ugh...i thought i had broken a bone .

Glad you are back Robert .... the move, any move! is always traumatic. Engine start and running vid soon? Too true. Our last house move involved me finding the wife unconscious at the bottom of the cellar steps with a large head wound and having seizures. That put the cat amongst the pigeons I can tell you.

It's where they stick a long thin nail down the inside of your finger to lock it rigid while the tendon reattaches itself. Actually quite funny if it's a middle finger that you've done in . They are still open for regular business so I'd go and bother them. Even if you only needed a bit of physio, better to get it now than have twinges later on.

Fabulous stuff this! Just read the lot, and can’t wait for more.
Love that photo of you propped on the front bumper filling rings. As others said, it epitomises the joy of old car tinkering.
I send you healing vibes for the finger, and much luck for the rest of the journey.

THANK YOU ADY ! And Clamity , that sounds like fun ! Ok DOKEY , a progress report incoming . ....... first job was to try to fix the broken off rocker box stud ..to do this i ran a die down the stud remnant , and then tapped a thread down a drilled out brake pipe fitting ,this was then fitted with a threaded stud in 1/4 bsf thread , which the domed chrome nut screwed onto....however,the assembly was too long , and i could not get the die arms past the rockers , so i did this .. i give that a 5.65/10 for butchery quality level . this allowed me to get the thread down a lot further eg.. and i could then have the fitting a lot lower like so .. voi ..as they say...la. next , now i had finished this in the rain , i went inside and had a play with the distributor.. i found it has a weird thing on the side ,.. cleaned up a trifle.. the knurled cap is easy to turn , is spring loaded with a 1/2 turn detent ...and all i could think of was a greaser of some sort ? answers on a postcard ,sent to me with a pound stamp on please next i found the vacuum advance canister is a goner , no surprise , so i took it apart .. lid drifted off.. holy diaphragm ( as the pregnant nun said to the priest) now as you can see from the numbers on the thing , it has max advance of 10 crank degrees , not really enough , i would prefer 20 , for lpg .,also its split , i could find some sort of goop to goop it up i suppose ... also i want boost retard .... so ..loads of research later , i got nowhere ,this is without spending money . so i think i may goop it up ,unfortunately the diaphragm is swaged in the middle other wise i would make another ,may still try to unswage it, and modify it to give more movement .. for the boost retard i came up with this .. which i am sure is self explanatory , but do please ask if not . oh one last thing , in fact maybe i should have lead with this , i found out why the car was probably laid up in the first place.. yup , that's the centrifugal advance mechanismo ....lacking one spring ,broken and lying in the case , and the other spring being so worn it does nothing .so this poor car was running with no advance, either mechanical or vacuum ..AT ALL.so 10 degrees timing ,all the time , i be that was a bit flat ,and ran very hot too. and the motto for the day is , "do not pick up a purple glove ,it may be suede." regards robert

Yup, fill that little cup with grease- inside will likely be cut as the springs will latch multiple places as it turns. Give it a click every 500 miles or so on mine. Depending on the thread yours may be less.

can you glue a disc of something on top of the existing material and put it back together, most of the dizzys I have taken apart have the advance stops in the baseplate mechanism, a few minutes with a Dremel should get you more advance.

no problemo mr 75 the vacuum advance unit on the left , looks like a little flying saucer , has a spring loaded diaphragm inside , and when it receives enough vacuum ,moves a little rod connected to the plate upon which the point are mounted and this advances the timing 10 degrees. I have removed the adjusting wheel from the vacuum unit holder ,and replaced it with a 4 psi wastegate actuator off a turbocharger . However , as opposed to its normal way of working , which is to have the actuator bolted to the turbo ,then the rod moves the wastegate , i have connected the mounting bolt to the vacuum holder ,and the actuator rod is now hard up against the distributor housing . this means ,when the wastegate actuator receives 4 psi boost , it will push the rod out ,and so draw the vacuum holder to the right ,so retarding the ignition .i can vary the amount of retard by putting a washer on the threaded rod where the old adjustment wheel went ,and if its trapped between to locknuts i can move it side to side for more or less retard . i can also have a air bleed on the signal to the actuator ,and with a threaded bleed valve adjust when i start to get retard . it has basically created a 3d boost ignition map , with no ecu involved and no money spent. hope that all made sense . regards robert
