I searched 'First F1 race' and a variety of pics turned up, some were definatly not f1, but this one of them and looked like it might be. Doesnt mean its f1 but too cool not too.

Just found this footage from the Beeb of the first F1 race held at Silverstone www.bbc.co.uk/sport/av/formula1/52641917Well worth watching note the hay bales separating the 100 mph race cars from the spectators and the royal boxes fabricated from scaffolding & plywood along with a leather cap for driver head protection !

For front engined F1 I would vote for the Maserati 250F

Fixed it. This is from the first F1 Season. I think I have limited knowledge of f1, and I may currently have my wires crossed, but I think the first F1 GP race was in 1946 in Turin, but the first season was in 1950. The previous picture may be from the first f1 race in Turin.

This is the F1 I'm bothered about. Motorsports history and proper legends. And the coolest traffic jam ive ever seen!

In 1976 the BBC refused to screen F1 races whereby it hadn't had a problem screening the sport in previous years - the Beeb considered the sport 'Not appropriate for family viewing' at the time - it didn't prevent them from screening F1 in the years to come however - so what was real problem then - well John Surtees signed a sponsorship deal with 'The London Rubber Company' for 76' and LRC manufactured and marketed a certain branded product John Surtees pictured here with Miss England Vicki Harris unveiling the 76' F1 car - A visible 'Durex' sign on a F1 car from a condom manufacture was a bridge way too far for the Beeb's liking (funny how 20 years later with the massive onset of AIDS that advertising of such products was prolific & acceptable in all formats of advertising media)

Agreed but which version they were straight six engines & V12's Red ones driven by Fangio :-) That would be the early cars before Fangio left Maserati to join Mercedes Benz - these were fitted with straight 6 - 2.5 litre - 220 BHP engines the later cars from 1956 were available with a V12 - 315 BHP engine although had little advantage over the straight sixes - but a V12 250F belting down the straight on full beans on a sunny Goodwood Revival afternoon is both a sight & sound to behold I can tell you - something that I'm very much going to miss this year

Many years ago (~30) I visited Schlumpf museum/collection in Mulhouse and one of the most vivid memories is of the red 250F in amongst the sea of blue Bugatti's and how good it looked.

Ah - These (I think they have had reshuffle since you were last there - this pic is 2018) Just a bit, when I went it wasn't long after the Schlumpf brothers fled. In fact it was 1990 found some photos (apologies for the slight thread diversion but there is a 250F there. Would love to visit again, was a good road trip there as well non-stop from the ferry in a Citroen BX 16v.
apologies for images iPhone shots of a photo album (remember them). One of the cars is a childs car and the 250LM is there as I had a Corgi model.
I don't suppose pre-war Bugatti type 35B's count as F1.

Pre war Bugatti Type 35B would be GP cars the forerunner to F1 in effect F1 mk 1 up to the late 40's then F1 has we know it now from thereon
