Mornin' all. I have been fruitlessly looking for one of these for weeks now! Everything I find is either 'modified' beyond repair or in actual pieces so this got me to thinking, is there anything that has disappeared off your radar recently? Have a picture to get the ball rolling; Also, if anyone knows of a decent one for sale. Let me know as driving my mother's Fiesta Ecoboost Automatic is bringing me no joy at all.

I think unfortunately they have become engine donors for many a conversion. Can't remember the last time I saw an early spec one like above!
Great chassis too even with the lower engines.

Most went to engine conversions as above or ended up in a ditch with half a Ripspeed catalogue bolted onto them. The rest, particularly the Ph1 are all tucked up in garages now.
The 106 Quiksilver is another, they seem to have all but vanished. Last time I checked there were fewer on sale than the GTI variant.

It's sort of the way with all sorts of bigger/less sporty cars with engines that fit neatly into smaller/sportier/more popular cars. Things like the BX 16v and 405 with the Mi16.
As the base car is quite good I expect there's quite a few in the racing/rallying scene.
If you're handy with a spanner it might be better to make one out of a lower spec shell and the GTi6 parts.

Sadly I think you're likely correct, just need someone to open the garage and let me use a car for transport or something drastic like that. Although I am handy with a spanner, lack of space and time means that any project is a non-starter.

I’ve kept my eye open for one for months and it’s all curse word that comes up for sale.
Had 2x p reg Diablo red phase ones in the past. Absolutely great cars.

Howmanyleft says 300-odd left. 350-odd dturbos, and they used to be everywhere!

As above, same with all of the fast 306's. Dturbos used to be a fairly common thing, but finding a 3 door one these days is a complete mission.
It's not like they rust either - XUD9TE is almost bullet-proof (DHY aside), leaving the rear axle the only bone of contention in maintenance.
Same with the ZX Volcane.

Rats, looks like I have some competition to that motor then! Any alternatives you guys would suggest?

I actually saw a lovely one go past my house the other day and I asked myself the exact same question! Don't see them at all.

I think the Citroen Xsara VTS uses the same engine but with a 5 speed box and is a bit quicker These aren’t as desirable as a 306 so you may find one easier/cheaper

This one turns up at a few of the northwest shows, it’s absolutely mint.

306's do rust, quite badly sometimes too, typically inner C pillars (near the seatbelt mountings behind the plastic trims)
sills, floor stiffeners, bulkhead seams, lower part of the front chassis legs where they meet the bulkhead, floor and subframe areas, also inner sills by the fuel tank, rear bump stop mounts.
I remember pulling an engine from a crashed 98 gti6 some 13 years ago to put in my ZX 16v, that engine got mildly modified and has lived on in at least 3 other 306's and possibly a 205 after being in 2 of my ZX's.
An acquaintance killed easily 20, maybe more, a good 10 years ago and paid for his first house deposit! he's now moved on to Renault Meganes as those have also dropped to a worth more in parts value.

Rallye is about 50kg lighter because it has (or, rather, doesn't have): No electric windows or electric heated door mirrors No passenger airbag or side airbags Less sound-proofing No front fog lights No CD Changer No external temperature sensor Cloth instead of leather seats, and no headrest. And no leather steering wheel. And no lumbar adjustment on the seats Aircon was an option No auto wipers, alarm, deadlock, dash dimmer, or rear courtesy light Oh and decals instead of plastic emblem badges! Less is more, and all that jazz. Mostly just rarer

They still appear on eBay regularly but as you say mainly as projects/modified. Always mk2's. Most have been pillaged for their engines, I have a friend who's track 205 has a GTi-6 engine in it. Actually on it's second one and it's a belter, laps the Nurburging very well indeed.
Rarer still is the mk1 S16 306.
The engine was also used in the Xsara Coupe but that is rarer still!!
I think the early 206 GTi's are worth a look, good cars if not massively quick but very well priced currently.
