Hello guys
Having a real headache trying to work something out.
I’ve inherited a French car, I’ve got the original car papers, aka the ‘carte grise’. But not in my name, they’re in my dads.
I’ve also got a letter from the lawyer saying I’ve inherited the vehicle.
Will this do to register the car in England or will they want an original French ‘Carte grise’ with my name on it?
I can’t find the answer to save my life, My thinking is it’s the same as a proof of purchase but my call to the dvla was useless, basically listened to a man repeat what it says on the website back at me after being on hold for half an hour.
Hopefully someone can enlighten me, Cheers 🍻

It’s a Toyota hj61 from 1987 if anyone’s interested, feels like a lorry to drive. I love it

Great vehicle, a proper Toyota. First thing I'd think of is to get a NOVA certificate if you have imported it. Then get it MOT'd on the VIN number and send the letter you have, the Carte grise and the MOT cert with the completed V form for registration. I would think the letter stating you have inherited it would be good enough for the DVLA. Oh, send everything recorded delivery.

It sure is a great vehicle, I’ve gone from driving my suspension-less Slammed volvo 940 to this. Thought it wouldn’t be as fun but I was very wrong. I absolutely love it. Can’t believe how well it pulls its 2+ tonnes of metal down the road, the leaf springs make it a bit of a handful round corners which is as fun as a well planted car I’d say. That was my thinking, just couldn’t find anyone else’s similar problem across any forums or google searches and started getting very anxious. Thanks for the reply 🤝

following. I'd be surprised if they didn't accept this - surely most vehicles coming in to the country are using original foreign docs from previous owners with some sort of bill of sale, as most countries won't let you change a vehicle into your name if you are not resident there so getting a carte with your name on isn't feasible.
