Hello again, I´m tempted to get an original Suzuki Wagon R (the "thin" one with asymetric door layout, not the european "wide" R+) or even a Daihatsu Walk-through-van over from japan. But since my japanese is veryveryvery poor both in script as in speech, I`m looking for an import specialist. There are none in germany I know of and since most japanese cars are rhd, chances should be better to find one in the UK. Any recommendations to contact, preferably in the south? Some pictures for entertainment:

www.goo-net-exchange.com/ (like autotrader) www.jdmauctionwatch.com/ these can source and import on your behalf. Whilst some car's are really cheap the expensive bit is shipping and taxes. I haven't used either, I have chatted with jdm auction watch via Facebook as I was looking at bringing a sunny pickup over years ago (wife wasn't happy about it coming from Japan though, they have doubled in price now 🤦🏼♂️😂)

Morning Grizz, The importer of the Deliboy was based in Plymouth, but according to the guy who sold it to me (who seems to know everyone automotive in the South-West), he no longer operates the import business. Torque GT seem to have a good reputation. Torque GT
Alternatively, if you're feeling lucky you can contact a Japanese firm who'll throw a car on a boat for you. This is the lowest-cost option, and makes sense for cheaper cars (not recommended for a GT-R, etc.) Car From Japan

Clearly your car choices are spot on.

You do seem to get a certain amount of resistance from her. Clearly your car choices are spot on. 😂 To be fair she encouraged me to buy the mk2 and the Mustang. She also loved the sunny but was weirded out by it being in Japan. But yes she does look at me sometimes and call me weird (she choose to marry me so who's the weird one 😂) It probably doesn't help that my only hobby is car's, so me finding weird stuff and showing her constantly gets her back up 😂

On occasion, she'll encourage me to spend our last penny on something I think is crazy (she'd be happy for me to spend loads on a classic mini as our only car, as she knows it's a lifetime thing for me) but looks at me like I'm an idiot for suggesting something relatively sensible like a Scooby! Women! (...or should I say "life partners" in these fluid times?)

Are you wanting to register this car in Germany? Do you know whether it's possible to register a car imported direct from Japan, or if you are going to have to do something odd like register it in the UK and then import from UK to Germany? I ask because you have a variety of levels of service from importers. Basic - you choose a car from an auction listing, they translate the action sheet, and bid on your behalf. If you win, they will do all the Japanese paperwork and pay the taxes and stick it onto a ship. When it docks, it's down to you. They tend to quote prices in terms of Freight On Board - this is the price up to the point just before the ship docks in your home country. For more information on this process, check out www.youtube.com/channel/UCo0_6VxevokFfUbf8ECJkAw - it's an interesting channel, though I have had no dealings with them in terms of buying cars. Full service - in addition to the above they may inspect the car before bidding, or select cars for you that match your expected price and condition requirements. They will also deal with the port to collect the car, pay the various fees and taxes, and potentially MOT it and register it so that you can collect and drive away. Clearly this involves more work and costs significantly more, but it removes all hassle. If you want to go direct to Germany, and there are no companies that offer a full service process there, you would have to go down the first route and handle all the German end stuff yourself.

All of the advice above is reasonable... But: Trade Car View is your friend : tc-v.com ... Will even give you the shipping price included in the vehicle prices. I know a few people that have bought through it, said it was painless. Benny Rees ( shootall on Instagram ) picked up a Sunny truck, cost less than the actual display price and arrivied a month or so later. Other than that I know a couple of people that have used Nippon4u.

This could open many cans of worms.
Quirky stuff on proven platforms.

What else is out there that ticks and tickles?

Not exactly retro, but the Japanese have so many cool 7 seaters. Nissan Lafesta (above), Honda Freed etc. Shame they're comparatively expensive and obscure to insure.

Crikey, quite the eye opener. I've no idea how costly the import tax or registration et al is, but some nice cars on TCV.

I imported the brown Toyota Corona in the video above along with many other cars. J Auto Agent is run by Paul and he's brilliant. He can guide you through the whole process. He's based in the middle of the country but you can have your car shipped to any port.
When I was importing cars, selling them to Germany was quite common. It was a lot easier to register a car from UK / Europe than directly from Japan over there.
