Finally got to drive this properly today now it's MOT'd and whilst the inside is lovely and the engine is smooth, first impression is that I'm a bit underwhelmed by the performance - my diesel X-type feels faster - though on paper the XK should be a full 2.5s quicker 0-60.
I do feel almost as if it is struggling to breath, it has had the back-boxes deleted and replaced with straight through SS pipes, and has a nice growl from idle-1200 but it just drones after that.
I'm not a fast driver but I was expecting more from a 290hp 4L V8.

It should be pretty quick, I had a 3l S type and that was fairly rapid and the S type R that followed it was insanely fast. I would expect an XK8 to be somewhere between the two.

Think I fixed this with a few things.
Adjusted the throttle cable to take out a bunch of slack - this makes a big difference as the slack feels like lag, I took out 10mm on the cable which is probably 50mm on the pedal.
Cleaned the mid load breather that was blocked Realised the kick-down switch that is actually a switch rather than ECU interpretation of the rate of change of the APP
Turn on Sport mode
Turn off "instantaneous fuel consumption"
Now it is still very civilised but a good boot and it's off like a scalded err.. cat. I can see why a manual conversion would be popular though!

Right so after 2 weeks of Parcel2go failing to pick up the parts 2 of these rear quarters finally arrived from Danny at Classic Auto - a specialist XK8/R breaker in Coventry. Nice job cut the perfect size. Next I have to graft them onto Kate's rear end. Don't think my diagnostic skills are going to help me much !

I am undecided whether to put on a joggled edge and panel bond or butt weld. Pros and cons to both. Either way I want to do it along a section curved only in 1 direction so I marked out where that happens and joined the dots, err lines

I suspect you've got all you need to fill Kate's bottom, be firm!

The good news is that Kate's bottom has been fitted - just needs some sticky stuff to hold it firmly in place - i mean panel bond.
The bad news is that at some point a cheap, curse word ebay only brand battery was fitted. It was disconnected whilst I did the panel work, then connected to move the car, then put on a float charge, a few days later - lots of bicarb and clean up needed!
Fortunately the battery is in the boot !
