Started smelling of petrol really strongly (more so than usual!). Parked opposite the house and thought it was overheating when a few whips came out from the bonnet. Then more than whips followed by flames, followed by me exiting the car pretty fast. We live 50m from a fire station but they were out so the fire people had to come right across town. Anyway, the end result is not pretty. Waiting to see how the insurance pans out. Fire damage they can be funny about.

Not a nice experience but at least you are ok - From experience I would say that will be considered a write off - would you be happy with that decision providing the insurance settlement is in line with your valuation of the car or would you rather retain the salvage rights on the car - let them pay you out and then rebuild it - if its the latter do not under any circumstances allow the insurance company to remove the vehicle to a place of safe / free storage - if you do your chances are that you will never see it again

As a fellow sufferer of a vehicle fire it's very sad to see, awful experience at the time.

If that was a less than excellent day for you, I don’t want to see what a bad day is like....😊

That's awful, fingers crossed for the insurance.
I had a Mk3 Escort immolate itself whilst driving once due to petrol being spat all over the exhaust manifold, it remains the fastest I've ever exited a vehicle.

Really sorry to see this. Saw it on the PSC Facebook page, glad you are ok though.
Hopefully it's not as bad as it looks (structurally) and you can rebuild it.

Sh!t mate, really sorry to see that
I love liveried cars, and yours probably had more than it’s fair share of talc over time.
I hope the insurance sorts you fully.

Oh no, I really feel for you, please don’t give up on it, especially with your plans for the Lombard.
Good luck, you will get there.

I did a vehicle examination course at work a while ago and was told that some of the chemicals released in a car fire are pretty horrible and can be carcinogenic. Wear gloves, a quality face mask and goggles if you need to touch anything on it.
