Hello!
Greetings from Finland. I've been checking this forum out from time to time, and have come to the conclusion that you're a pretty inclusive and diverse bunch here. No real discrimination against certain makes/models, or build styles. I've been exposed to vintage cars my whole life, and I like (or can at least appreciate) them all. My favorite era of cars though, is from the late 60s to roughly mid 80s.
I've owned a '72 Opel Ascona, '67 Opel Rekord Coupe, '63 Buick Riviera, '65 Pontiac Tempest, '72 Pontiac Firebird, '84 Opel Manta GT/E, '89 Chevrolet C1500. For me it started with RWD Opels, and after that I tinkered with American cars for a bit. A few years ago I got back into old Opels, and currently my stable consists of these three. They are in order of completeness.
'83 Opel Manta B, my current summer car. A close to stock 2.4 CIH with throttle bodies and Megasquirt (about 160 hp/236 Nm), Getrag 240, GT/E Manta LSD, Koni Sport Shorts with H&R -40 mm springs. This was a full body on rotisserie rebuild, that I completed with my friends help a few years ago.
'72 Opel Rekord, that is my most current project. I was on the lookout for a 70s Opel shell that had minimal rust issues to deal with, and I found this. Luckily, after further inspection, the shell still turned out to be really solid. Had it painted, built a stock 2.0 CIH with twin 40 mm Webers for it and fitted a Getrag 240 to go along with it. I'm in the midst of sorting out the suspension (will stay low) and electrics. After that it should be ready for MOT.
'75 Opel Ascona. I'm a bit in over my head with this one. It was supposed to be a fairly good shell, but you know how it goes.. I've done a lot of welding on it but there's still ways to go. I'm currently waiting for an inspiration, to start building a rotisserie for it.
'86 Chevrolet Camaro Z28. This is actually not my car, but my elderly parents'. I'm the designated care taker for it and take it for a spin a few times during the summer. Pretty much bone stock 305 TPI + TH700. A bit rough on the outside, but a really fun and relaxing car to cruise in.
Like my user name says, I'm mostly into old Opels (or other GM products) since that's what I've grown to be familiar with. I do have a huge urge for some kind of a Japanese car from the 70s though! Mainly a TA22 Celica but I might just have to resort to daydreaming about one.
I guess that's me, car wise. I pretty much toil away in the garage on my own, and hardly ever have the motivation to share any of it in written form but I do like reading other peoples project stories. I just might do some kind of write up on on the Rekord though, if I get myself started.
That's it, cheers for now!
