^^^thinking an Fn2 or an older quick Civic? Probs not an EP3 (not sure why...) How are MG ZTs for parts? (...and ZRs and ZSs?) Struggling to equate MG ZT with "4 seater MR2"! That is the epitome of chalk and cheese for me. A nice 200 VVT or BRM maybe, if there are any left.

If you look at the first post you will see that the op's criteria is quite broad, there is even mention of a truck, the ZT handles well has a V8 or V6 four seats is fun and the V8 is a bit of an event, so although I agree it's nothing like an MR2 it does fit the brief. BRM for the diamond stitched red leather alone is worth a look if you can find one

I had a BRM and the interior was cringeworthy but it was a really good little car. People forget they had torsen LSD out of the box too.
With respect, my experience of ZTs has not suggested they are a particularly good handling car ...but each to their own.

They were universally praised for their handling when launched and I have owned two both of which were superb for a front wheel drive car, perhaps your experience was of a tired example or maybe wearing cheap tyres? The V8 Zt is of course rear wheel drive and also sports an LSD.

am i missing something , i thought the mr2 roaster was a drop top? no one has come up with the obvious solution to the problem , audi S4 cabriolet. £6-7k , 4(ish) seats , V8 , thank you very much , that'll do nicely.

'80 s1 924 turbo..hibernating '80 golf gli cabriolet...doing impression of a skip '97 pug 106 commuter...continuing cheapness making me smile!
firm believer in the k.i.s.s and f.i.s.h principles.

Get a side window & bucket seat fitted for him There was a part converted (172 engine) mpv version for £750 last month, luckily I don't have room for another car atm

A definite possibility, I should have said convertible not essential, sorry

An alternative 4/5 seat MR2 could also be a Corolla T Sport Not that I'm biased at all Not particularly retro though I'll admit.. Could even get a Compressor model in OP's budget! Ive also had a Gen-7 Celica with the VVTL-I engine, very practical and more power but I prefered the ST182 as an actual daily. The VVTL-I was a lot newer (A/C worked, less gremlins) but as something that I enjoyed driving, the former was much better. The Compressor I guess helps but the VVTL-I was so tiring everyday, especially on motorways/long journeys! On lift on a back road brilliant fun, everywhere else, not so much. Both are kicked into the weeds compared to my modern 2007 E90 330i which is by far a better car in every way but probably too new. Celica VVTL-I by Robert Seymour, on Flickr

To be honest that is a good point, and the thing that started to annoy me about mine when I was dailying it. Toyota did put the Lift transition point too high in the rev range really, if it was maybe even 500rpm lower it would have been less "peaky" to drive for sure. Then again with an intake and exhaust, it was a fun screamer on track!

Still no decision made, except to say I do not want an Audi RSQ3! A mate just took me out in his, lovely noise (400bhp turbo 5 cylinder) but scared the poops out of me! Utterly capable and mentally fast, but not for me...
