Open-air gigs, festivals and theatre shows can resume from this weekend, as long as they have "a limited and socially distanced audience", the government has said. Outdoor performances can go ahead from Saturday, 11 July. www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-53354262Edited to say let’s try and avoid the politics side of things!

At first I would have thought a car show could have been classed as an 'open-air gig', but a gig is a musical performance, so I guess all this is aimed at the performing arts sector.

as far as i can read you still cant go passed a maximum of 30 people? but then its all so all over the place i have no idea.
saying that i found this
It is otherwise against the law for gatherings of more than 30 people to take place in private homes (including gardens and other outdoor spaces). Businesses and venues following COVID-19 Secure guidelines can host larger groups. This is also the case for events in public outdoor spaces that are organised by businesses, charitable or political organisations, and public bodies, provided they take reasonable steps to mitigate the risk of transmission, in line with COVID-19 Secure guidance and including completion of a risk assessment. This can include weddings and funerals (which we advise should be limited to no more than 30 people), religious ceremonies and services, community activities and support groups. Any other gathering in an outdoor space or in a private home (or garden) must not be any larger than 30 people.

I’m not sure how specific car shows category would need to be as they’re not going to list them specifically are they?

The fact it states a business can do something a private individual cannot tells you everything you need to know about how good an idea it is.
Just write off this year, don’t try to force things to happen that will cause problems, and let things restart as-per next year.

What you have to consider more than anything regardless of whatever the rules / rule changes are is just how much goes into organising an event in the first place and the lead times required to do so - there is a huge amount of behind the scenes stuff to get into place - I cant imagine that's going to be any easier with all the restrictions regarding the virus that will be required to be adhered to - just composing & writing up the risk assessment for any public event is a massive undertaking - it's not just a matter of picking a date and advertising an event - its a great shame but I think the vast majority of classic / retro car events are all but written off for this year.

Theres a good chance my local will be on in the next couple of weeks, problem is its in a small village with tight access, its chaos on an average weekend, so with other local boots not being on, and everyone clucking for a fix, it will be bonkers. I might just go for the experience.

I’m not talking about organising new events. I’m referring to existing events that have deferred dates this year.
i.e. players classic and retro rides weekender both at goodwood and both moved from earlier dates this year.
Surely they would have been postponed to 2021 if there wasn’t an acceptance that some kind of provisions would need to be in place for additional Covid isolation routes etc.

Would be nice if Players would put a stake in the ground and tell us what their "some time in August" actually is now. Could be as little as 3 weeks away! I've got a ticket booked from the original date, but no idea if it's going to clash with other things I have booked.

I suspect Players are still waiting and seeing, not announcing in case it needs to be moved again, or cancelled. Like us I suspect their lead times are shorter than most big events, but I'd expect them to have to jump or commit soon (I know what their date is but it is up to them to move forward as they see fit so I'm not about to share it). I'm not going to reinstate Gathering, but it looks like we're in good shape for Weekender. Particularly as Goodwood can be socially distanced pretty easily (and our show isnt so busy that it would actually be a problem). New theme: Japanese subway look, everyome has to wear a face mask ... Let's see if we get some more clarity soon though.

Oulton Park say they're open again for certain events, pre-booked tickets only and with limited capacity and certain parts not accessible.

some car boots have been open for a while now, with arrows to make poeple walk one way, why a car show should be different i don't know , some punters wearing masks but not many , oh and no one but no one taking any notice of the arrows or social diatance !

HoTWire glad to hear you're feeling in good shape for RRW - I had to get a refund when the date originally got moved but after this second move I'm hoping to be buying a ticket again fr€$h&m1nt¥ thanks, didn't spot that detail. I hope Players announces the date this week, there's always a scarcity of hotel places when they do. I take it you're intending to go? May be back to back weekends at Goodwood! I can understand in a way Players not wanting to announce another date before they are certain, but it puts all the disadvantage on the attendees - their ticket money is in limbo, and they cannot make plans in case the date clashes. The RRW approach of announcing a date to me was a lot better
