Hi everyone. I'm after a compact aircon/heater assembly and wondered if anyone has discovered an easily sourced OEM one? it's for a 2 seat coupe

The issue may be control integration of modern hvac into the car systems. Even older early 2000 stuff has electronic controls. One modern (ish) small hvac system that came to mind is the one from the early (2002) smart car. I could be wrong but I think that the heater controls were cable operated, and the A/C (when fitted) looked like a single separate on/off switch on the top of the dash. Might be worth a look.

Don't Kit Car Solutions do an a/c system? I'm sure there's at least one in their catalogue. I wonder if that might be easier to get working than an OEM one.

Hi, You don't need electronic or climate control to make A/C work.

I'm after something where i can set temp, change the direction of the airflow, screen/footwell etc and then hit the AC button on hot days.
Any other suggestions, is it possible to run the more modern stuff and work around the electronics?

NIssan Qashqai aircon? this looks reasonably self contained but they normally use a huge hedgehog resistor to control the fans and does anyone have a good understanding of how these are controlled electrically?

The automatic climate control systems on Volvo 940s aren't small, but are self contained and have a din radio (ish) sized control panel. I upgraded my 740 to AC and climate control using the wiring loom and bits from a 940. From top to bottom are volvo 940 with Climate control, volvo 760 mk2 with Climate Control, and Volvo 740 non-AC. Control panel: The system has pneumatically controlled flaps to divert the air, and the dome lamp in the roof is needed to measure the ambient vehicle temp. It also has a sunlight sensor you can place on the dash which lowers the temp a little in bright sunlight to compensate. All wiring diagrams etc are freely available online

I don't have any experience of them, but might be worth looking at a unit from an MX5? They must be pretty compact to fit in the earlier ones and its a common car (with owners potentially ditching the AC for lighter weight) so may be easy/cheap to pick bits up?
