Allright. Way off topic for this thread, but something I've been wondering about. And since you guys are willing to go in to excruciating detail over the word vintage, maybe you can help me out... Somebody posts a pic of Stirling Moss with the caption Sir Stirling Moss. But the pic is of him as a young man, before he got his title. What is correct, in a case like that? legend!

One of the best. But that was not the question... Is it right to call him Sir Stirling when you show a pic of when he wasn't yet?

I would say "Sir Stirling Moss in an early photograph showing him...." to circumnavigate that particular conundrum

I guess it's no different than photos of celebs who change their name through marriage or whatever reason. Is this a photo of Cat Stevens, even though he changed his name after it was taken?
(I didn't forget to post the photo, don't have one to hand.)

I nearly turned off Dark (on Netflix) when an episode opened with '1953' across the screen as a policeman pootled into shot in a non-oval window Beetle. haha I noticed that too! For the most part though, they did a good job.

This always annoys me now I've seen it, theres a couple more as well, Ashes to Ashes. Set in 1981.. Why on earth change sound of a amazing 240 engine! Also wrong wheels there of a 1985-1992 Volvo 740 Turbo Graco 15 inch alloys. The 240 had 14s but optional 15s also Virgo alloy wheels. What smashed into the back. Did a train hit it! Or BUS!?

The lady in the Van - a film set in 70's to the 80's and for some bizarre reason they used a 2007 Toyota Van as the private ambulance, other than that slight error it was pretty much spot on.

I’ve watched too much top gear to not be able to spot Mira as soon as it comes on. Pretty much ruins everything. Yes, I've been noticing sections of Millbrook (is that the same as MIRA now?) on all sorts of programmes recently. Not Going Out Christmas special, Silent Witness, Killing Eve, all kinds of things. Either it's recently become much more difficult or expensive to use real roads, or hiring a test track has become the opposite. www.007.com/focus-of-the-week-casino-royales-aston-martin-dbs-flip/As impressive as the stunt was , it was ruined for me as i had clocked it was milbrook. Teach me to be such a old cynic!

relatively famous one. WW2 film "ice cold in alex" with a series 1 land rover that didn't go into production until 1948. that american sled on the left looks 1950s too

The crash scene at the end of Vanishing Point (sorry spoiler alert!) the Dodge Challenger turns into a '69 Camaro. There's actually loads of similar substitutions where a feature car is swapped for a similar looking to the lay person, car for the stunt scenes. yeah the long distance grainy aerial stunts in knightrider, where KITT randomly turns into a late 70s camaro.

Cannonball Run: Stating that a 170 (at best) mph Countach can do 220mph (probably need about 750bhp to make that), and everyone running together to put their tickets in at the end - WHEN THEY ALL LEFT AT DIFFERENT TIMES!!!! Also the ambulance driver saying that it'd take about 4-5 minutes to get to the hospital WHICH WAS 10 MILES AWAY!!!! Fair enough on the Countach BUT many of the cars in the original real life run were modified like crazy, so its not beyond possibility, but I'd agree for a standard one yes you're right. The final chase to stamp the tickets is correct, when all the competitors get stuck at the truck stop earlier in the film it is announced its a straight sprint to the finish, presumably to even things up as they all got caught in the fight etc. If you are talking about the Medivac ambulance driven by JJ it was originally modified with a tuned Hemi engine and could do 145mph, so maybe could have done 10 miles in 5 minutes. My favourite film ever! Lots of other cool facts about it - eg apparently in the race the film was based on one team actually used a Nascar car with all the numbers etc taken off.....

I believe that the Ambulance used in the film was the actual Ambulance used by Brock Yates and Hal Needham used in the real Cannonball. And yes, big Hemi, 145mph and massive fuel tanks. This was not the Ambulance I meant though - the one where they're being ferried to the hospital after the boat crash would not have been a modified one. Still, it is my all-time favourite car film. Love it. Apparently someone found and was restoring the Lamborghini. I did not realise this, but someone made a special exhaust for the film, with 12 tailpipes. Oof!

Cannonball run is a huge favourite of mine, so much so that I have been to the start line from the movie in a shady part of Georgia and the finish line from the movie at the Portofino Inn, California as well as some spots along the route. Full set and video are here; rewoundandfound.com/the-cannonball-run/ Dave

Watched American Ultra the other night. At the end, there is a scene with a hummer. Inside shots of it have a petrol V8 sound, outside diesel. Arrrggghh.
