Have you had a drive round the back roads in the areas of Sheffield that are popular with the people who took all the city bikes and weighed them in?

He's been all over South Yorks everyday (like 9hrs a day!), nothing. He's done recovery for ages so knows most of the other local firms & knows a lot of local taxi drivers and they all looking for it as well - it's a very hot truck this one! - only thing he's heard is it was seen driving about on a 10 plate, but his borther failed to ask where lol

Got to be either a van chop shop going or they're exporting them.
Wonder if the gang who got done a couple of years ago in Bradford with all the transits just got out?

Got to be either a van chop shop going or they're exporting them. I was talking to him the other night and we both came to the same conclusion. The fact they took a transit camper the same night seems to suggest one of those as well.

Without trying to be branded as racist, but we had a spate of van thefts round here and it turned out to be members of the travelling community taking them.

Its Sheffield, the council gave them all a house when they came over so they could create there own ghetto and no go zone for the police. Not all travelers or Roma are bad news, sadly the ones that you hear about are and give them all a bad name, those ones would be better used as pig food

Where I live, we have a site for travelers that don't travel. We don't get a single bit of trouble from them. Even ask if they can take scrap metal if you leave it out.
Last weekend we had an influx of caravans and motorhomes parked on a local pub field, and a couple of cars got stolen, couple of garages. They were up for a funeral apparently.
This is all speculation that I've heard from the local nosy neighbours.

Definitely a ringing crew working around there To be fair the police do work hard on cases like these when multiple vehicles start going missing , although I’d say it was more likely an exporting gang than travellers imo

Do you know anybody in SYP who could put you in touch with someone on the vehicle theft side of things to talk to? It is possible they haven't linked all these thefts, alternatively try tweeting them in a public way to see if that gets a response...

We had a similar series of events in my area about 5 years ago. Every defender and transit seemed to be going missing. Turned out to be a ringing/breaking outfit which was being run out of a remote unused farm which was coincidentally about 3 minutes from an export dock.
I happened to be in the local police impound yard when they bought the vehicles and parts in once it was shut down. The scale of the outfit was somewhat alarming. Never seen anything like it.
Could be worth setting search alerts for sales of transits matching the stolen vehicles description on eBay, gumtree, auto trader and trying to catch them if they get listed back up for sale again. Unfortunately in my area, there are certain people the police won’t go anywhere near.
Come to think of it there has been a bit of activity locally, an increasing amount of vehicles are now clamped up.

Just to point out how bad it is atm.
2 camper converted transits taken Friday night, from the same house! Also at least one other transit from same area. So at least 3 from same area in one night and police still not interested.
My mates Fiat seems like it might have been stripped from what he found out (by himself I might add, police didn't act on the info either!)

I can't help, but how are they taking them? Towed away? I thought you needed keys nowadays? I wonder if campers are desirable (to theives) now as prices have rocketed since the lock down, everyone and his dog is buying one for the 'great British staycation'

I can't believe they haven't been caught yet, every night I look on the camper and van pages there's another one at least reported stolen from the same area. They've got to be exporting them, home converted campers are far to distinctive to ring and sell on and I wouldn't have thought they would be worth the trouble of getting rid of all the camper stuff if they have gone for parts - it's not like they could just go in with the metal and burning that amount of stuff is going to be noticed.
