ChasRPrices have shot up seemingly over night without me even noticing. A mate was saying he was looking for one and couldnt find anything for under 3k Last time I looked you could still get a ph1 for 1k, now not a chance lol. Throttle cables you can no longer get from renault. I think clutch cables maybe now too? Both are issues as the universal stuff never works correctly. There are places that will replicate them, but as you can imagine this will be at a cost. Daft things like the brake lights from the cup spoilers. I threw one away that had a tiny crack because they were £25 new from renault, not worth keeping. Then suddenly cracked ones are fetching £100 Every week I see a post for someone asking for something as they're no longger avilable from Renault. Slippery slope.

It's rare that you get a car that's right out of the 'box for track work. I guess that was the Clio 172's undoing. There wasn't much for me to do on mine! Even with my M3 that people seem to love, they are not quite right out of the 'box for track work. Fun? Yes. But some do it better for less cash, where the Clio I suspect is one of them. The parts situation isn't a surprise. While I know you are not part of that brigade to run a car on a shoestring, many RenaultSport owners are. If the parts aren't bought, they will only go one way. That unfortunately is the problem. People (including me) moan about how the wings for an E46 M3 are £300 each. But it's not like BMW are selling loads every day, and compared to an MGB, they're a bit of a bargain, and a Porsche 944, which are now £700 each from the dealer, when they make them; they make them in batches. Working on a low volume production, it's interesting how the price suddenly jumps up and how the cost to store things never helps. After all, buildings don't run themselves for free and neither do the people who make them.

So it's lock down, and my head's been spinning thinking of small retroish cars to own, the Mrs drive a modern country man mini and I drive a 5 door Corsa b. Id love something else, so far I've though saxo, 106, Renault 5, micra, polo, maybe a small Volvo. What other cheap retroish cars Am I missing that are suitable as daily drives and a bit of modification? What about early 2000? There is something interesting about 2003–2006 Chevrolet SSR. The price is around 15k-18k
