Oustanding work, I love watching this coming along. I mentioned before, it's one of my favourite builds on here and I get a bit excited when I see there's a new post. For some reason when I first saw the thread title I read it as 'lucky lloyd' and now it's stuck with me. Maybe you should rename him lucky lloyd as he's escaped the crusher in your hands!

Thanks Norman 👍. Yes...I know what you mean about dodgy repairs and MOT exemption. Thing is, the truck had a valid MOT on it when I bought it...clearly it was as fake as Katie Price! 😄
Anyway, really looking forward to the continuation of your build thread. It's come so far that it'll be great to see the end result 👍🏻

masterclass in fabrication, making your own repair sections of complex original pressings. really interesting thank you for taking the time to document and share with us...

hope this doesnt come as an insult to vw fans, but it feels a bit like watching BBC repair shop, where one of UK's most respected art restorer/conversationalist puts as much effort into a reprint of snoopy poster, as they did on a 14 million quid turner.

Its update time again.....and once again, thanks to everyone that commented and 'liked' on the last update.

This update is showing the repair made to the upper part of the chassis on the drivers side. It sits inside the engine bay and is at the end.....or beginning of the upper chassis....depending on way you look at it.
As you can see from the pictures, it's not a pretty sight.









So, chisel it off so I can repair it....



















Chop all the rot out and add new metal.....















Then into the shot blaster to clean of any surface rust....which didn't get it all out, so it then spent a few days in the de-rusting acid. 
 





Next was the reinforcement plate for the seat belt that sits behind that pervious end piece...

 











Unfortunately, it had rotted through to the panel behind it. So that was all cut out and replaced.....










Then back to the reinforcement plate. I managed to save the upper half of it, but had to fabricate a new lower piece.....















Next on the list was a piece that sits on the inside of the chassis and is attached to the other side of the first outrigger. The one on the passenger side can be seen in pictures in previous updates. 



























.....and that is it for now. Like I mentioned before, I'm trying to update on a much more regular basis now as I have an absolute mountain of pictures to add and write up.

Thanks for your kind words 👍....I appreciate you taking the time to comment. Right at the very beginning...it was only meant to be a quick tidy up. But, I always have the problem of not being able to do that.....whether it's something silly like house work, or as in this case...the truck. I've inherited this trait from my late father. He was such a 'perfectionist' as it were....( I don't really like using the word perfectionist/perfection as many peoples idea of perfection are at many different levels....so in my head...it can't be achieved ). He was a builder/carpenter and would put the same amount of time and effort into everything....whether it was a million pound house in Sandbanks or one of the local council houses. He would constantly say " Don't bother doing anything unless you're going to do it right." 
I get a lot of people asking why am I bothering with an old undesirable builders truck that should of been scrapped years ago.....they just can't get their heads round it. To be honest...I can't really give them a straight answer.....but it's like an OCD thing that I just can't help 😁😁
