As the title suggests I'm going to do an oil change on my old 85 Escort 1.1.
The manual says SAE 10/30w or Duckhams Recommendation is 10w/40 but, somewhere the other week I heard 10w40 was bad for your engine and i've been a bad owner recently and can't remember when I changed my engine oil. mainly because I have a couple of small leaks so I felt like it wasn't worth it/ would sort them out... now I know I just need to do an oil and filter change as its been ages!
So what should I chose ? I don't know a lot about oil types as you can tell and the manual doesn't specify what engines should have what engine. Just seems to say across the board either of them two.
I've seen that Duckhams are making these lovely presented SAE 30 or 40 old school cans now...
So I guess one of these would be best as its aimed at classics.
Also will 10w30 pour out if I have a few leaks? I'm guessing its thinner that 10w40?
I think its a crank case seal so unlikely to get fixed anytime soon as i'm not skilled enough to remove the timing chain.
