Hi good people of RR.
We have success that with new points and and coil the new 2.3 petrol in the LR burst happily into life !
Less successfully it then revs its nuts off with no choke and no throttle open... I can get it to slow down by putting my hand over the carb to restrict airflow but have obviously got something going on.
Its an early 110 engine with a Weber DMTL carb and manifolds.
Anybody know this carb and able to give some pointers ?
Thanks
James

Is the float stuck, or a needle missing/damaged? Silly question- there is/are jets fitted to the carb aren’t there? Butterfly stuck/bent etc?

It must be getting extra air from stuck spindle or choke mechanism.
If its twin choke are both butterflies fully closing?

Any missed or open ports on the inlet manifold?

Thanks for the thoughts, will have another look to make sure all is shutting off. Slightly resigned to taking it apart again but sounds like air source is the key. James

Just had a quick play, looks like the primary butterfly isn't fully closed at zero throttle. Blanking off the breathers etc. that aren't yet plumbed in made no odds, had to put hand over primary to stop reving too high. Other than that no nasty bangs or noises from the engine so still progress ! Will take carb off and report back. Thanks James

There should be idle speed adjustment on the linkage somewhere.

I am officially a numpty. Completely confident that we had done the throttle cable set up all correct I didn’t double check. Guess what it was ? Cable too tight… Anyway I think we must have set it when the mechanism was sticking slightly open. That’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it. I’ve already hung my head in shame but at least I’ve admitted it ! Been struggling with the mojo on this recently so very happy with the below. Sorry for wasting your time but the support was appreciated. James

Oh and if anybody can point me in the direction of how to tune this carb that would be good - don't have a manual for it yet. James

I’ve got a Weber tuning manual, but it’s for aircooled VWs so doesn’t have your carb, I think it shares parts with the dcnf, but that’s just a twin choke, there is tuning and setup info for a 32/36 dfv but not sure if that’s any use (I’ll hold off posting any photos, but happy to if you think they may be helpful) And there is no shame in getting it wrong, most of us have been there.... I like to think of it as a learning opportunity, which is good because I then get a lot of opportunities to learn
