I'm drawn to puchasing one of these but after a few reviews.
Id obviously want to use it for the standard stuff like emergency jump starts (mk4 golf tdi with curse word battery) charging phones. Use when camping etc.....
But I want to know if it will do the following....
I have a Vw t4 that I'm rebuilding. Engine upgrade etc. At the momeng it has no battery. I'm using the golfs battery to test electrics the putting it back. I don't want to buy a battery just yet as it will just go flat by the time the vans done.
Could I use one of these power packs as a temporary battery when testing the van, of is it just for short high powet bursts?

Yes, I have two in my stable, with one being in the car. For starting cars, they are great. As examples -GB40 : That struggled to start my Mercedes 280SE 4.5 : I had to wait a minute to let the charge dwell into the battery (something Noco say themselves to be fair) and then the car just and only just fired up. That was however a big engine (it can allegedly start a 6.0 petrol), which later on, it transpired had bad battery connections ; It became very random in its ability to start. Both terminals had serious corrosion where they attach the battery posts which was not immediately obvious, and both also had corrosion from where the terminal attached to the wire. I only know this as one day, no jump pack would start the car and the electrics were flickering on in the car. So I do wonder if the GB40 would have been fine My Mondeo 2.5T it's struggled to turn over, but it's done that ok. I'll send a video now below ; It did always fire it up from absolutely dead: http://instagram.com/p/B-UbUMyjnV8 For testing however, they are a bit too smart . They have a built in resistance checker, so they won't just chuck out a spark and also to allow you to not short circuit the jump starter. This can be bypassed however by pressing down a button which makes it an old school jump pack ; this is needed when the voltage in some cars is too low. The GB70? That has jump started everything fine! Bar my dad's 535d, but I suspect that was partially user error, and even a massive GB150 struggled to start that. That had the same issue as the Merc above however, as the battery from the Merc was literally thrown into it ; the terminal on that battery is chewed up as I used to jump cars from that battery once upon a time, and corrosion and heat had set into the pockets of the terminal. As a result, it kept on coming and out of the protection circuits (the battery had a poor connection, which my dad did not know about how to bypass on the jump starter until I arrived. With poor connections, the jump starter could not see the battery, thus why it flicked in and out of protection. Sure enough, with no charging, I tightened the clamp on the 535d and it started anyway, but still on a battery with a suspect terminal, so I suspect that may rear its head again. I would say that yes you can use it as a source but to be careful. Lithium Ion is a great thing for batteries but those protection circuits are there for a good reason. I tend to use an old power supply for testing things like that or a battery with a smallish fuse in the leads . If you have a smart charger, a new battery won't go flat. Lidl sometimes do one for not much money. Noco now do a decent one for aorund £30-40 as do CTEK, meaning that with their quick connectors, you can just go around to different cars to charge them up effortlessly, even with batteries under covers. I do this on my M3. When do you plan to make the van roadworthy?

Wow, thanks for that dude👍
I think my Golf battery is totally shagged. Been completely flat and recharged too many times now.
The van is an ongoing project needing lots of custom fabrication so will take a while. I'm just being tight and not wanting to buy battery that will sit in the van unused for maybe 12-18 months.

But I do like those booster packs for their other features. I do a lot of fishing and camping in the summer and could see how one would be useful. Plus we had a power cut recently for 8 hrs and I was climbing the walls

My camper has a 3.4 V6 petrol, I had problems with the camper side draining the batteries to the point where even the central locking didn’t work, while I was waiting to get it in the auto electricians the Noco started the camper 7 times and was still showing 75% charge, it’s also helped a few others, one a combo diesel and recently a neighbours Land Rover, from memory it was last year when I last put it on charge, as you can imagine I’m a big fan 👍🏻👍🏻
