Hi, was just wondering if anyone had ever requested from the DVLA a full copy of all the information they have on a car you are the registered keeper for? Did you have any joy, how did you do it, were they helpful or obstructive and if you got some info do you think they sent you everything?
Cheers.

It used to be possible to fill in a form V888 and get copies of previous V5s and other documents, and that was very interesting because you could see where it had been in the past - I've got the info for both my Vauxhalls, and I have the original registration application form and all V5s, albeit very poor copies of some of them. However they've stopped doing that now for "data protection" reasons - their argument being that all the previous owners didn't specifically give their permission for their details to be passed on, so they can't do it.
These days people who fill the form in need to specify a "Good Reason" for having the information, and just being interested in the history of your own car isn't a good enough one. Search on V888 and I'm sure there are other threads on this topic on here.

I did for wifey's Ford Pop. Turned out to be a can of worms. It was one of the reasons I am going for BIVA.

I did. Have all my Rx2’s history. All previous owners etc. One thing I never expected,(and no, it’s not a sexist remark, I am neither sexist, nor Racist, I hate every body else equally🤣🤣) ,was that the majority of the owners when still fairly new, were women. Never expected that. Got a lot of information, but realistically,I timed it perfectly, just before the whole information act bull took place. Doubt you get sweet fanny Adams now 👎🏻 I got about 30 pages of information

Thanks for the advice guys. Will try it when things calm down and see what I get. I am more interested on the notes they have on file about the car rather than the paperwork. They have it marked as scrapped and I never said it was scrapped so I want to see what they have on file for who told them that.

I decided to go down the BIVA route for future peace of mind (building a car for wifey and then giving the advice that she would need to be aware of possible issues didn't seem advisable...). The DVLA history was a disjointed collection of different reg numbers and descriptions that really made little sense. Given one of the names that occurred three times I suspected shenanigans...

ahh got you. It all seems a bit of a mismatch. They have told me that if I put my car back on the road, MOT and tax it, just write to them and they might ask for an inspection though no explanation of by who or what. And they would just remove marker. Some people seem to have had it that easy, others seem to have had a nightmare.
