This is just a bit of fun and I am pretty sure that some really odd stuff will turn up in this thread. When you've moved in to a new place, what's most random stuff you've found in the garage? I've been quite lucky (I rent) as the Landlord said we could keep whatever was in the garage. The house had belonged to their late father, and he had all sorts of weird stuff in there. There were numerous very dangerous looking scythe/sickle type implements - we've kept a couple in case Covid19 turns into the Zombie Apocalypse. I have also found a sander and a boxed angle grinder. I gained a bench grinder - whilst not the greatest make, and missing one of the guards, it was free and works fine - I replaced the coarse wheel with a wire wheel. I have also gained a not-so-small amount of drill bits. I have yet to go through all these, so who knows what sizes I have. They all seem to be sharp, too. But the most random thing I found was drill chuck keys. I didn't find 2 or 3, oh no. Instead, after going through various boxes I gained a total of TWENTY-SEVEN chuck keys in 3 separate sizes (only 2x knackered drills to go with them). I've given a few to friends, but I still have a few left. No idea what I am going to do with them. Bizarre!

Ha! I got a block of foam on the wall, a garage door in major need of a service and a crack in the mortar on the back wall.

I got a barn 2 feet deep in old hay/straw and horses£*t! Along with old mattresses, tyres and a bath Had to get the Estate Agent to explain to the seller exactly what ‘vacant possession’ meant, and make them cough up for 2 skips to get rid of it all 🙄

To be fair the people that emptied our place got a roll on roll of skip to get rid of the stuff which shows how much needed to be removed
We did gain a useful small steel sectional tower thing that's been useful and an old school sack barrow which again has seen much use, oh and the usual selection of shovels with no handles and many other broken tools! nothing worthy of pictures!

Awesome idea for a discussion.
I bought my first house last year, it has a decent sized garage and another equally sized shed. With it being my first purchase I didn’t think anyone would leave anything behind, but oh boy did they! I’ve just this weekend discovered an extension to the garage buried under foliage which I’ve been hacking out. It’s the ideal place to store my compressor, ever growing collection of wheels and jet ski. So I’ve been going through that over the last few days.
Recent discoveries consist of.
1970s (I think) Black and Decker Workmate 625. All 4 leg clips were snapped so I’ve ordered some replacements but all seems to be present and correct.
Brand new Bosch Recip saw which was new in the box.
Space heater and two full 15KG bottles of butane (donate to a mates workshop).
Pair of pretty cool retro sun loungers.
Huge collection of empty jars.
Various pretty cool lamps.
Ammo chest full of what appears to be numerous, very old verniers or measuring marking calipers and some odd chisels.
Record vice.
The hunt continues. So will be updated in due course.

A few years back a mate of mine and I rented a storage unit which was an old pumping station. Previous tenant was a builder who left behind a load of useful stuff including 4 or 5 aluminium extending ladders and a load of scaffold boards. The boards got used for various DIY projects including a new floor for my trailer! Various mates ‘borrowed’ and kept some of the ladders, although I still have 2. There was also a box of original 1950’s green and white enamel lamp shades (the kind Drew Pritchard gets very excited about) – the money we got for those on eBay paid the rent on the unit for a couple of months! A couple of months ago my son bought a house and I got the task of clearing the garage – full story here…. forum.retro-rides.org/thread/212904/1968-morris-ado16-unintentional-retroBut her are a few of the treasures I ended up with…….. Oh yes, and this…..

Unfortunately the house purchase didn’t go though, I was relocating to Stoke-on-Trent for work, put an offer in on the house, had it accepted and had to cancel it all when I was made redundant a week later.
Anyway, the old boy that owned the house was moving into an old folks home and leaving everything in the house. From the front of the house it looked like it had a small wooden garage, this wasn’t the case. The garage was three large cars long, with a pit and had a fully kitted out separate workshop at the end. For the asking price as well he was going to leave his late 60’s mini as well since we had a common interest and he knew it would be looked after 😭
On the other hand in the house I had at the time, and still live in, I still have a leaky garage with lots of spiders 😂

I found a load of dusty Springfield records on a shelf in my garage. I sold them on ebay. Now I just don't know what to do with my shelf. 😊

In the last house in England I bought, there was a load of old school rulers, vernier, etc, but also the most amazing selection of whitworth spanners. I've never found a use for them, but I'm keeping them.
The new house here, the garage had all the previous owners family history artwork and effects going back to the mid 1800's, stored up in the roof. They didnt want any of it. We ended up donating a lot if it to various institutions and museums.

I've only been left some old garden tools (which are much better quality than new stuff) but it is the dream to buy a house and find an old mini or a 356 left in the garage. Everyone needs a dream.

Almost ten years ago we purchased a small block of land almost adjoining our rural small holding. On said land stands a derelict house, a garage, and many years accumulation of junk, much of which has been outside for a very long time. I'm still finding stuff. Items of interest here include an ancient Holley carburettor on a four cylinder Ford manifold (believed to be Model T), the petrol tank off an International Harvester crawler tractor, and a trailer axle with hubs that look very much like Hupmobile items from the wooden wheel era.

Wasn’t there an advert a few years ago with a couple viewing a derelict house, and had what might have been an Austin Cambridge (memory???) dumped in the garden? I’d have been ecstatic!😀

In the early 80's I bought a house from Peter Timpson who used to build the Centaur kit car. It had a large double garage that he used to build them in. I acquired a South Bend lathe, a Simca 1501 and a Record vice. Where I currently live I found a Dinky Jaguar xjs on a ledge in the workshop. I've been here 22 years...

When i left uni and moved into a house with some mates in Withington Manchester, the house had a garage that was rented to a lady down the road. When i peaked through a hole in the door there was a late 80s white XR3I . Tried to buy it off her but she was having non of it. Other than that I got some bike wheels and gears for an old racing bike in the last house, nothing in the new house. All rented though.

I did find a genuine roman coin in the back garden, apparently from the 3rd century AD, but only worth about a fiver! If I can find it amongst all the cr&p in the cupboard I’ll post a pic Don’t hold your breath.... Apparently just up the path in the field behind mine, they did find a cache of gold coins who they were putting the new road in

I used to help a mate out occasionally who dealt in antique furniture, a lot of the stuff was beautifully made and had age but not worth much at all. Crazy when you think how many hours went into making it.
