I've not thought about these Cars in years until the other day, now I cant stop thinking about it must be some quarantine madness! My first Car was a Citroen Saxo "Open Scandal" in 2005. I thought at the time it was the best thing especially being Yellow and only 8 years old (sad i know!). I owned it nearly 3 years until it went away for scrap then replaced with a mk5 Escort. Turns out it had been in a pretty major crash at one point and shouldn't have gone back on the road, I didnt realise this till 2 years in. Being 17 I used to do wheel spins coming out of college and broke at least 2 half shafts and 1 gearbox during that time, due to the front end not lining up. I remember getting a gear box for £90 from a scrapyard and a garage fitted that with a half shaft for very little. The gear selector was sloppy as so I asked them if they could make it tighter.. when I got it back you had to use 2 hands to get it in to first!!! probably best R960 ROF has gone now I always wanted a mk3 Escort at the time and my folks bought me this as I was in college and it was thought this was safer/ wouldnt cost as much in welding as an Escort. It was a good cheap run around for sure. I also added a K&N to it and always dreamed of putting white Alloys on it but the 3 stud hubs made this impossible at the time. For anyone that doesn't know they are a limited edition with vinyl roofs or, an electric sliding canvas roof (mine had the vinyl). The seats are multi coloured and the dials are colour coded. Comes with a little 1.0 non injection engine (used to race my mate with the 1.1 Saxo and his was much quicker) . Last year I saw an advert for a Saxo "Open Scandal" that the seller didn't know if to scrap or not. Turns out there are only 16 left on the road so, a rare beast now. I've noticed a few Saxos lately and started thinking, I wonder if that would be a good modern classic to run around in. This is where I came back to thinking of my first Car and to weather anyone else has one or remembers this edition specifically. I started thinking it would be fun to make a cheap sleeper VTS version of this but, also not worth putting that kind of money into one of these maybe. So, anyone else had or have one? What are peoples thoughts on these? Are Saxos a Classic or cool yet? Here was mine. Apologies for the photobucket watermark... I don't have any other pics of it. A much nicer Saxo begging to be lowered with nicer wheels in my opinion . A brochure

I was trying to find a roof off one of these to weld into mine but as you say they're properly rare now.

Hes got a lot of parts anyway, maybe hes got the roof still. When i had mine i never understood why someone bought it new without the sliding roof option.

Never seen one of these before, similar to the Polo 6N Open Air.

The bell end has cut the shell in half straight down the middle and is trying to sell the rear bit for 200 quid lol

An ex of mine had a posh Ka with an electric roof like that, on a nice day I used to pinch that for work, and leave her my Vectra (normally needing fuel ) great idea on a small car.

When someone says Saxo my brain goes and Which is unfair because that yellow one is quite cool. And retro.

I know what you mean. I think modding one without it looks like a Max Power Car is difficult although these are extreme haha. Although the Open Scandal doesnt have the wide arches. would probably look good lowered . I always wanted the more Mango yellow Saxo but ended up with this canary coloured one. This was my vision as a teenager but with the Oz rally wheels which I could never buy without the 4 stud conversion. Love they did a Bic pen model as well... i don't think its a curse word take either I think going back to a Saxo knowing the poor NCap results would freak me out a bit. I say that driving an Escort mk3 but this level of danger from a 90s Car is pretty terrible.

They did them under a few guises. The first one was a Ka Sun Collection Limited Edition. It was basically the Ka2 which then became the KA Collection. Mine I made into kind of a "Ford Racing" Ka Sun Collection. The Webasto roof was great. I also had a Webasto in my MGB; I do love a Webasto. I know what you mean. If you go inside a 106, the interior similarities between a late AX and it are uncanny!

Thats true. I know a lot of Ax parts made it over to the Saxo but did the floor pan etc? My mate had an AX at the same time I had my Saxo and he couldnt get over 60mph in it haha.

There were a LOT of special edition Saxos. This one at least does seem to have something special about it with the electric ragtop. They did the same thing with Picassos, green with a green electric ragtop was very of its time.

I know what you mean about NCAP currently building a AX but it is replacing my motorbike so i guess i can justify it that way although there is not much in it lol

Just made a rough photoshop of what I would do if I bought one again. Lowered, Side plastic delete, tinted lights and OZ racing wheels.

Love a Saxo - was my first car, a 1.4. Mine got taken out by a police van though (their fault), shame as it was very tidy indeed. They're getting very thin on the ground - the VTR/VTS especially, and even quite a few of those are getting raided for engines to slip into AXs etc.

Back in my days as a regular on Saxperience forum, I remember a guy building one of these. It got a full VTR kit and I think an engine conversion. Was pretty cool.

I think this might be it or one of the chav'd up open scandals although can't see that its had the VTS treatment www.saxperience.com/forum/showthread.php?t=239172I myself had a brief period on saxperiance . I ended up reading a thread where a couple of lads were slagging each other off the other night and calling a Saxo "a mango" due to its colour . very entertaining I started looking up Saxos on ebay and gumtree and some of them are very cheap. Also, I noticed they seem to be except from London ULEZ charges. This got me thinking that when work kicks back in I could get a VTR or S to drive into the city haha. Not sure why this is as the engines must be quite old.
