For sale is my 1998 Alfa Romeo GTV Spider 2.0 Twin spark
I bought this back in December ready to enjoy over the summer however with current ongoing situations I cant really justify keeping a second car.
Logbook in my name, all 3 keys including the red master key.
I’ve owned various Alfa Romeos and despite them always driving me mad at some point with niggles etc they're awesome cars and more interesting than your everyday options. If you want value for money and the best option buy an Mx5, you buy an Alfa because you like it!
106K Miles on the clock good service history. Mot until 25’th June 2020.
Had been using it a few times a week in the nice weather as I'm currently still working, just to keep it moving so it doesn’t sit doing nothing.
Being a 22 year old Alfa its not perfect, ill listen everything as honestly as I can in this advert! It still a great fun little car and cheap alternative to a lot of other convertibles.
The roof does not work in fully automatically mode with the one button in the centre console, it however goes up and down fine with the manual buttons just have to lift it up and down like most other convertibles, takes no time at all. Apparently you can re set the sequence of the automatic roof and it should work, i don't know how to do this personally!
Work carried out recently:
2020 – New alternator and battery fitted, battery was completely dead after sitting in the garage during winter and killed the alternator so I replaced both.
2019 – MOT and service, rear spring cup rust cut out new metal welded in, common rust place on these, has been sorted and 2 new front tyres fitted at the same time. (If you check MOT history it will state the rust and tyre, both are sorted now)
2017 – MOT and service. Cambelt, balancer shaft belt and cam variator, rear discs and pads rear suspension arms and rocker cover gasket
Good points
Team dynamics motorsport wheels go well with the red and black theme, great tyres all around
Space saver and original alfa Romeo tool kit in the boot
Beautifully comfy leather seats with the alfa Romeo logo stitched into the headrests.
Working air con (Not sure why you’d want it in a convertible, but it works!)
Paintwork comes up nicely with a polish, not too badly faded for a red car of this age.
Drives well and the 2.0 Twin spark engine makes a fantastic noise, they are great engines.
Comes with car cover that fits.
Bad points, please bear in mind I'm being highly critical here as I don’t like going to look at a car and discovering bits that weren’t mentioned!
Roof leaks, few small splits and holes and generally just tired, you can buy patches and probably could seal it up, in reality keep it in a garage and use it in the sun, problem solved!
Air intake pipe has a split, taped up with duct tape, was like this when I got it, drives fine and doesn’t affect anything just looks rubbish!
Wipers, when you first start the vehicle if you put the wipers on they don’t do anything for a minute or two, once they operate once they will continue to work fine however, maybe a bad earth or stalk? Not sure. All I did personally was start it let it warm up and stick the wipers on so I know when I drove off they would work if needed.
Alternator belt squeals a bit
Radio doesn’t work
All in all despite the bad points it’s a good little car, its not perfect and I haven’t claimed it to be. These are getting rarer and rarer now and, in my opinion, will rise in value, the good thing being the rust is taken care off and parts are readily available!
Asking £1100. There’s nicer ones out there for more money and there’s some proper rough ones for less money.
Any questions feel free to ask! Again any additional pictures wanted just ask.
Any inspection welcome you are more than welcome to view and test drive with social distancing in place.
More than open to offers from RR users! Rather it go to a good home.
Car is located in Calne, Wiltshire, SN11.
