1963 Singer Vogue, almost looks like I know what I’m doing

Hi folks, Here is this weekends progress. My son came along so we had two grinders stripping surface rust and loose paint off. The areas were treated with hydrate 80.




















I had a few little bits of welding to finish so we put the shell on its side and I climbed inside. I was sitting on the b post to get more comfortable to weld. Unbeknown to me my son was taking pictures, in the second one I look like a dwarf.





Now today I did some prep and primed the floor. I went up to the beginning of the bulkhead with primer but will need to clean up the bulkhead with hand tools as access is difficult. A job for another day. Here are the pictures of the primed floor, I have put my heater on in the garage to help with the drying process.





Tomorrow I will seam seal the floor and will see where to go next. All the best, Norman

Thanks for the comments, yes things do move faster with an extra pair of hands. Sometimes even if it’s just for passing tools and my son is a great one for tidying as we go (I am not). The banter and helping with holding pieces of plate and coming up with alternative methods of doing things makes all the difference. I need to order more epoxy, can’t remember where I bought it from. Hi folks, I decided to blast the front panel to deal with pitted rust and paint removal. Here are a couple of pictures.





Now here it is with a coat of etch primer on to protect it from rust in the meantime.





Media blasting is a filthy process, I was utterly filthy when I came in from the garage. This is the mess just on the floor, everything in the workshop has media on it.


The task for today is to clean up the engine bay. I needed to get the white paint off. I believe this is ordinary household gloss, it certainly smells like it. Here are a couple of pictures before I started.







Now I cleaned as much off as I could with a polystrip disc then scraped a lot off with a sharpened wood chisel. I will need to try something else for the hard to each areas, perhaps a wire wheel on the grinder. This again is another filthy job. Some of the paint came off easily because the metal under it was rusty. I think there was zero preparation before painting last time. There are quite a few pitted areas which will need treated with hydrate 80 before painting. Here are a couple of pictures of the area after today’s cleaning.

If its house paint then just use a paint stripping heat gun and a screwdriver as a scraper - should come off quite easily.
