Knowing how many of us like weird or slightly different things. Not sure if I should add this one here. Ford Transit Connect, launched 2002-ish in the UK. Mate Tim likes them and is hoping to bring the Connect 6 he is building to the rescheduled gathering at Goodwood in July. Previous creations include a Subaru Brat forum.retro-rides.org/thread/67165/1992-subaru-rollbar-spots-fittedAnd a Chevy C10 camper. forum.retro-rides.org/thread/140831/1974-chevrolet-c20-camper-specialSo when a 2002 Connect passed his radar....... A plan was hatched. Few random pics from Tim, in case people are interested in more. Alongside his V12 XJS future project. His daily is a 2007 with a chunk of older Connect converted to a trailer for camping. Thought it may be interesting.

Chorley Street Garage (CSG) - amongst other people have also transplanted RS running gear from a Focus RS into a Connect.
Looks good

Interesting stuff indeed! Very capable little vans with the most uncomfortable seats and seating position of just about anything i have ever driven. Used to have to occasionally do a 200 mile round trip in one....boy did my back protest!

I see Tim's Connect down at Haynes meetings occasionally, only seen Tim a couple of times. Interesting seeing someone doing some bonkers six wheel stuff. Looking forward to seeing it complete.

Any more pics of the Connect camper conversion? Interior layout, alloy wheel make, roof tent etc. Something a bit different to the usual vw caddy.

As always, it won’t be everyone’s cuppa but as HW says, pushing boundaries, daring to be different..... Hot Rodding at its best. I will try to get Tim to take over this thread, Like the Medusa thread and update it, but I think he is pretty busy. Few more pics of yesterday’s progress. Some good straight lines. I have not asked him why he is building it yet.

Hopefully the answer is no more complicated than "because I can" since that's the only reason anyone needs to build something like this.

The answer to "why?" is surely just "why not?"!

I like the look of the connect. I've seen a few modified ones. the 3 axle one is wild . I saw this lifted one that looked good .

Hopefully the answer is no more complicated than "because I can" since that's the only reason anyone needs to build something like this. I have tried sleeping in the back of these vans & i'm only 5'8" & i have to sleep diagonally semi curled up in the fetal position. The popular conversion is to use a lwb high top as they are 10 inches longer & 6 inches higher but would still be kinda cramped to sleep on. By adding the rear end of another van it gains 3 feet plus of interior length so i can lay out properly & i can also have plenty of room to kit it out with a cooker, sink, cupboards etc instead of having the cooker etc in a side awning which all takes extra tine to set up once on site. On my camo one i do have a roof tent & sunawning which may well make it's way onto this van purely as sleeping on the roof does benefit from the higher vantage point of outward viewing & also would up the sleeping possibilities to 2 in the van & 2 in the rooftent

Good to see you in here Tim.
Not sure how, but maybe HoTWire or another moderator could transfer this thread to Readers rides and even switch ownership to you.
If not, please do continue to update and advise on your build, and your brick laying skills.

Could do with an extra foot chopping in to my vw t5 would be the perfect van for my floor laying needs if it was 30cms longer I suspect it is do-able. Just need to find someone who will do it and a donor section. @brat-Man could have advice.
