Hello all, before I start my new build thread I need to try and find some decent size tyres for my wheels, I've got 10.5" x 16" rear wheels and I am struggling to find any decent size tyre for it that is wide enough (255/265) and a low enough profile (45/50). Front wheels are 8" and was going to run 225 or 235 which are relatively easy to get hold of
I have found a few 245 but I think that would be too much of a stretch on a 10.5" for my liking, and it's a fast road car not scene/stsnce queen.
Anyone recommend anything please?

Your going to struggle here. All of the tyres in the size you want are drag tyres, not road legal. The closest thing I can think of which is legal would be a 295/50/16.

And thanks I can get a set of Toyo Proxes Tr1 225 front 245 rear for 'reasonable' money....but that would be quite a stretch tbh. I'd rather not go down the route of changing my split rims to make the rears thinner just for tyre size....I want to keep 4" dish but without running spacers (I could change the inner barrel of course, that would be quite easy but a bit of a faff to source)

Nankang sp7, it's marketed for people carriers but is the closest to what you need that I can think of.
It might be worth looking at someone like BF goodrich, I'm sure us muscle cars must use a size like you need but I don't know if they are legal here.

A few questions from here:
-What car is it -How low is the drop? -What are the offset of the wheels?
These will all play a part

Have you thought about getting them stepped up to 17” ?
I think there’s a bigger range of sizes available for 17” although I’ve never had to go that wide myself personally but worth looking into I think.

The Nankang PS7 good shout will have a look.
The car is a Peugeot 205 Gti with a wide bodykit on it, it does not have lowered suspension at the moment (doesn't even have the kit on yet). The alloys are Image split rims 16x8 and 16x10.5. Can't remember the offset exactly but I bought them from someone who had them custom built for a Mk1 Escort wide arch (race car), and I calculated the offset to be almost spot on for what I wanted...I just didn't check tyre availability first, doh!
I am not going 17" because I do not want to run that large a diameter on it, I had one with 16" before and they looked and drove great, 17" looks daft IMO on a 205.
I'll take a look at BF Goodrich, but it's looking increasingly like I will have to change the inner barrels to knock and inch or so off and just go with the 245 Toyos. That would be better to drive as well tbh, larger width is going to understeer more.

Hey, hope you are well long time no speak! Thanks for the links.
The Pirellis are a no, far too expensive. I had heard about the r888 but yeah i think they are discontinued. I did also look at the Kumho but at 180+ a corner again it is starting to get pricey.
Someone I know just sent me pics of 8" and 9" with 205 and 225 respectively and i was surprised the stretch wasn't as bad as I thought... So i know a 225 on 8" front will be ok and a 245 on the rear won't be as big a stretch as I thought...the cost for all 4 Toyo Proxes TR1s is 330 so not bad....

Now I know it’s a 205 I agree with using 16”s rather than 17”s but also now I know it’s a 205 which I assume is staying as FWD I’d get the 10.5”s sent to image and converted to 8”s or get the parts and rebuild them yourself.
It makes sense to have wider wheels at the back on a RWD escort but not on a FWD Peugeot 205 IMHO.

Unless its something like a Dimma kitted 205 where you'd want the wider/lower offset wheels on the back for the aesthetics..

Hey, hope you are well long time no speak! Also only just realised I bought my MGB Sebring arches off you, giving me my wide wheel conundrum 4 odd years later and they haven't got any closer to being fitted to my car haha!

says 17" is too big, but wants 10.5" wide. what?! 17" is to big a diameter. The width is to fill the width of the kit. I chanced upon the wheels the very first day I was looking for some and they cost me a lot less than the £2k they would have done buying new from Image. The width is only an issue due to lack of tyre choice, I can change the inner barrels, but I would rather not if at all possible. Unless its something like a Dimma kitted 205 where you'd want the wider/lower offset wheels on the back for the aesthetics.. Indeed, thanks. As I said above it's a wide bodykit (similar to Dimma but wider, a lot wider, national hot rod width) and I did not want to go down the route of running stupid spacers on the back. It's already got a 309GTi Goodwood rear beam on (+25mm) and will be having 309 front wishbones (+10mm). It is a fun/fast road car but not a track/superfast FWD car. It's for fun, I've got an R32 V8 turbo Skyline for the track. It's having a rebuilt engine, BE3 box, R1 bike carbs and a full magnex system on it and that's it in terms of performance so will be about 140bhp with supporting chassis mods to suit. The wheels were sized to fill the arches without the use of spacers. I have already said about I can get new barrels and reduce the inner width of the rear wheels if I really have to, but I would rather not as it's a lot of faffing about. If 10.5" is 266.7mm and a 245 tyre is 9.65" and a little over 10-12mm thinner each side, that isn't a huge/daft stretch? The only point of reference I have is the 265/40/R18 fitted to the 10" wide rims on the back of my R32 which fill nicely/no stretch. I have a spare set with 225 on the front and they don't have too much of a stretch.

SO I finally found someone with original Dimma 16" wheels (9" front, 10" rear) and they said they were running 205 front and 225 rear, 40 profile. Pictures I was sent look like a bit of stretch and a bit of rim poke, so not bad. Means that the Toyo Proxes I was looking at should be sufficient, especially with a 45 profile instead. Thanks
