These are a car which most people appear to have forgotten about! It's questionable as to whether they are retro, but I've certainly not seen one on the road for quite some time; You forget how modern and ahead of the time they looked! The instrument cluster is what I remember from these! It's funny as the Capri when it was 20 years old was definitely considered a classic, as a friend reminded me. He had a 1981 Capri 3.0 S in 2000, and back then, they were in the usual magazines . They've followed the same path however as its Japanese Brethren before it including the : -S12/13/14 and dare I say S15 (they have not suffered quite the same fate) That is: -They were deemed a little expensive to run for what they were ; I know my mate loved his but he could not get over the fuel bill -They gave the German cars a good run for their money when new -Like all Japanese cars, they loved to rot, despite good mechanical parts -Due the above, they became cheap and unknown -As a result, Drifters started buying them up, and one-by-one, they slowly started drying up. Some no doubt were boughts as parts cars to keep others going; after all, why spend a fortune when you are on a budget? It's interesting to see what direction this takes. Yeah, I agree, well, to be honest, i definitely don't consider the car retro, I just love this forum and I wanna remain part of it, so I've thrown a thread up and if nobody's interested, then fair enough, as long as I remain an active member on this forum I'm more than happy! Everything you've said about the car, in my opinion is 100 percent correct! They do rot, they are expensive to run and they are "underpowered " But who cares? I paid £730 for this car with part service history, cream half leather interior with heated and electronic seats, air con that works, power steering and I can still kick the end out if ever it takes my fancy. So I'm more than happy with it! Cheers for the comment mate

I had mine for probably 8 years. It ever needed a new battery, pads/discs, fluids and filters. Extremely reliable and at the time a lot cheaper than the equivalent BMW or Merc.
They did an is300 but I've only ever seen a couple. Be interested to see how that drove.
Slid into a kerb one icy morning and killed it.

Sorry about the demise of yours mate. I've seen a few 300s but they're mostly auto, unless converted, auto isn't for me I'm afraid

Wheels will look spot on with a drop, your bonnet is the reason I will never own a black car again, used to spend hours getting my Cougar like glass, to come out a few hours later to a dusty bonnet like that, got to the stage I was washing it every day

I actually like them because, they're not amazing at anything, just good st everything. They're relatively comfortable, not too slow, can do skids, easily modified and have okay cargo space. So a winner all round for me!

Maybe fit the boot spoiler off the sport. They did one with a brake light and one without.

It's funny that people used to fall over themselves to add 'lexus' lights to any old hatchback...now it's gone the other way where people with an actual Lexus are keen to cover the Lexus lights up. I'm not being negative about your car... it's just an amusing observation.

Always had a soft spot for the IS200s - think they're quite a handsome car, with a reputation of being a bit "pipe and slippers". Liking what you've done with yours so far
