I have had this car since January so thought I may as well start a thread about it (got plenty of time on my hands). My silver 205 daily was starting to become a bit of a pain on the daily commute. It needed some money spending on it,which I wasn't prepared to do as the body was pretty scruffy. With feet now firmly in the retro camp, I started to look for something new to add to the fleet. I've had fords before, it's what we had as kids at home (Cortinas, sierras, fiestas, escorts etc). I had a mk3 and MK4 escort, and a brilliant but rusty mk1 fiesta 1.3 Ghia (miss that car). Lots of these now command far more than my small budget, so I started looking at mk3 fiestas. Many of them are now very rotten and the prices for good ones are on the way up. Eventually I found this car. It immediately spoke to me as it is identical to the one my mum had when I was 17 and driving on L plates. I called the seller who said it was worth the 2 hour drive. 50k miles, never been welded, family owners etc. It's not perfect, but in pretty decent condition. The rear quarter has seen some paint, but it drives very well and is rock solid. Plans? Tidy it up, change the wheels, slight lowering. Want to keep it subtle OEM style. Already picked up some wheels and added those. I'll add a couple of pictures, with more details to follow if people are interested.

Cheers mercdan68, thought now was the right time before they start getting too expensive. It is pretty tidy but still room to improve. The photos are slightly out of sequence, I took the 'driving lamps' off as they were working themselves loose and not even wired in. Has your lad kept the red one? I saw you had the maroon one for sale

Very nice! Do love Mk3's. These in OEM+ style look ace!
First picture is a spitting image of my moms old Mk3 she had mid 90's. She and her side of the family only drive Fords, even to this day.

Thanks MiniDan, Although it's not quick, it is comfortable and cruises along nicely in 4th gear as long as there are no hills. Mk3s obviously not as desirable as the predecessors, but definitely practical and useable. Looking at lowering, but want it fairly subtle. I'll get some more photos and details up soon.

They are becoming popular within ford circles now The mk1 and 2 models are not around at sensible money now Ford scene tax is annoying! The mk3s are rising in price now that’s why I told George to hang on to his red one, good ones are worth keeping

My brother had a 1.1 Mk3 with a RS bodykit, now that was slow! 😂 It’s only a matter of time before they go up like most other Fords. I would have loved to have a Mk1 or Mk2 but sadly I’m priced out of the market now. Enjoy yourself with it 👍🏻 Looking forward to updates.

So, when I collected the car from Stockport, there were a couple of issues on the way home. There seemed to be an oil leak coming from somewhere and the car pulled alarmingly to one side when braking from speed. The seller agreed to rectify these under warranty, so new drive shaft seals were fitted along with a new caliper. Strangely, there is still a small oil leak from the driver's side of the gear box. Only appears when driving, not on idle. Anybody any ideas? Next up was the leaking sunroof (what a surprise!). It's a webasto pop up job. Tried to find a new seal for it, but no luck as yet so had to resort to silicone as a temporary measure. Fitted the new wheels. They are mark 5 xr3i wheels from 1992, so appropriate age for this car. They came with almost new 50 profile Yokohama tires, so the radius is almost the same as the original wheels and tyres which means the Speedo remains unaltered (not that excess speed is much of an issue!). The interior is very tidy. Seats are clean and undamaged with just a little bit of sag in them. Running with seat covers in the front to keep then protected.A previous owner added a subtle after market stereo, which has an aux input so keeps me happy with plenty of Spotify playlists. The number plates were very scruffy, so ordered so new ones. I'd normally go for pressed plates, but decided to try a (poor) approximation of the original ones. The car was originally purchased from QUICKS Ford in Chester, so wanted to reflect this (lots of interesting reading on this. The building still survives I believe, it originally had parking upstairs via a ramp. Anybody have more info? A significant amount of time has been spent under the car (it's all good under there). Any surface rust has been rubbed back, treated with hydrate 80 then a liberal coat of waxoyl applied. Not sure on next plans. The temperature gauge reads very low. The car warms up, the thermostat opens etc. Think it is just the sender (have a new one on order). Just wish I could be out driving it a bit more. At least lockdown keeps the mileage down!

That looks lovely I prefer it without the fog lamps, they are the floor pan and mechanicals as the 1st generation KA's if you are after mechanical upgrades this is a good place to start for affordable parts.
