I was going to paint the underside of my 1986 mini with some of this 2k raptor type stuff, but i watched a vid from Trev's Blog and he made the point that if you use something that hard, when it does fail itll hold water. I'm not sure what to use.
car is white, and ive prepped it with aerosol etch primer and plan to go straight over the top of it with what ever i buy, but it will be white in colour.
can someone advice me please? thanks

Check our the Jowett thread in readers rides, in the last week the car was treated to some dinitrol coating on the underside.

I don't agree with the whole 'holding water' thing. If you don't want to use Raptor use Gravitex and paint over it tho.

If you want to properly protect the underside of your vehicle then need to use a proper underbody anti corrosion protection product - something that remains flexible - moves with the vehicle and physically prevents rust from forming - vanity painted finishes wont nor will epoxy mastics - products that have been both field & laboratory tested and that are actively marketed has rustproofing products will - from decades of experience I can highly recommend the following products:
Dinitrol 4941 - Underbody wax Dinitrol ML - Cavity wax
Bilt Hamber - Dynax UB - Underbody wax Bilt Hamber - Dynax S50 - Cavity wax
Please don't hesitate to repost if you require any further info - Chris

thanks for the reply, the car is a mini advantage. Now, the sills and underside are usually white from what ive seen. If you where doing this as a job, how would you go about it? Paint the sills, and use clear wax?
thanks

Paint the sills, and use clear wax? thanks Its a good compromise - paint the sills treat with clear wax just up to the visible edge - anything not visible I would treat with the denser / more protective underbody wax - treat the inner sill / step cavity with a cavity wax - you may have to retreat the clear wax area every few years / mileage dependant - its just a matter of keeping an eye on it

I can second for Chris’ recommendations. My Mini is 26 years old and still on its original sills after lathering them in Dinitrol.
