Right.
That ecu needs to see not only the ABS, but also talk to the gearbox. So realistically your not going to get that to work in the W111.
The easiest and cheapest thing to do would be part out the w210 completely, except for the engine mounts and arms that fit your custom crossmember. Then find yourself a early 320E w124 4 speed that doesn't have ASR or Cruise control and use that as your donor. BUT! you will still need to check if the w124 ecu has the pair of shrouded pins for the ABS. if it has look for another car or ecu.
You cant use the engine out of the w210 with a w124 ecu without swapping a lot of parts over. The donor W124 will also give you the 4 speed gearbox that is better suited to your project.
You can use 722.6 with the aftermarket controller if you want to, but that's money better spent on buying the right donor car.

I do not completely agree with you that it is the wrong donor car for the swap.I am communicating with OFgear in Denmark on their transmission controller that takes care of the abs problem and the wheel speed sensor, it is complete stand alone transmission controller, And if that takes care of ABS, could you not do a stand alone ecu if the transmission controller does not work with the OEM ECU ? I have also been in touch with Sound German Automotive and their controller also gives the feedback to the ABS from speed sensors the shaft from the tail of transmission which eliminates wheel sensors.If either of these two do not work, could I not buy the the 722.4 transmission and go to a complete stand alone ECU. I appreciate your input, but I am of the opinion that it can be done with the 104.995 and the 722.6 I have, and I know both the engine and trans are good, as I drove the car before I started this swap and got service history on the car and it had detailed service records, I am willing to put in the time and money to see this thru, as Henry Ford said, Whether you think you can or you cannot you are probably right.

Oh 100% you can run the w210 engine on a standalone management system, I was just trying to keep the budget down for you.
The only work you will need to do if you use the 722.4 is rig up the vacuum lines and the 2 solenoids that control it, it will shift quite harshly if they are left off. You will need to convert your throttle body and inlet manifold to the w124 version with a cable, this is so the kickdown cable linkage can connect to it.
The rear gearbox mount on the 722.4 is just one bolt so will be easy to fit to your crossmember.
If you get the gearbox from a w124 or w201 it will have a speedo cable drive on the tailshaft, those from a w126 or w202 do not.

Thanks carat 3.5 and I do appreciate your help and advise. I waiting on reply from OFgear to see if their stand alone controller will communicate with my OEM ECU and if I will be able to use the 722.6 ,and explore my options from there. I also asked what stand alone ecu if any would work with their controller, if any. I want to get their opinion on this. I will always have the option of the 722.4 trans and a stand alone ecu. Seems like the Swedes and Danes have done a lot of work with the M104 and the 722.6,The company. Turbobandit has done a lot of builds with unbeliever horsepower.

Luke at DPUK in the UK sells those controller kits for the 722.6, he use's them behind OM606's with big power.

I have received the information from OFgear in Denmark and their controller for the 722.6 transmission kit does fit what I want to do and is pretty much plug and play and eliminates the abs problem and picks up shift points direct from trans, and works with the shifter I have out of the E320.It also has option for external speed sensor.Small size will fit easily up and my dash on console out of sight and digital control will fit in glove boxing I can pull it out for adjustment while driving.. It is considerably less expensive than Sound German Automotive and with no VAT shipped to USA it is $ 763.00,I am now looking into stand alone ECU have looked at Haltech and Megasquirt and suggestions? As Mentioned before my engine wiring harness is in excellent condition and would really like to find standalone ecu the works with it.

I'm sure I've read the microsquirt can be configured as a tcu, so I would have thought a megasquirt could control the transmission as well. Can we have some more pics of the w111. Dan Dan I will post more pics of coupe in the future, now hood is off wires hanging and its up on the lift... |

As Mentioned before my engine wiring harness is in excellent condition and would really like to find standalone ecu the works with it.Murph, Besides Haltech, AEM and Motec spring to mind as they particularly popular in the States. I'd check out rolling road/tuning shops in your area and see what they have say. Maybe you could get a good deal on supply, fit and tune? As for using the original wiring harness I can't comment but I would be factoring in using new harness more suitable to the new ECU just in case as there are bound to be some issues either big or small using the original harness. Personally, I wouldn't bother with the original harness. With a new ECU and sensors, a new harness makes sense to me. Do keep us posted. |

Wolf, I have looked into Haltech, but will check out AEM and Motec,I wrote MegaSquirt and they sent me back 10+ questions about engine, fuel system and numbers etc. will answer tonight, today align and bolted in engine and trans, spent most of the day doing it by myself, checked radiator fit with original and it is just a little too thick, afraid a too close to fan, I have a W114 radiator with trans oil cool in it will try that tomorrow and also have the E320 radiator.If all else fails I will have one made. I cut out the center section where hood latch fits was just too tall for pulling engine and trans in and out, sent it with welder with drawing of tabs that are slotted to fabricate so it can be bolted on and off. Be well and stay safe over in Ireland, we are opening up slowly here in Colorado, but I have very little faith in our president and his administration, so I wear a mask and stay home...    |

carat3.6 thanks for information, I visited with a friend that owns independent Mercedes shop here in Denver and he advised that the way to go was not with the standalone trans controller, but with 722.4 as both you and wolf had suggested. Now that you confirmed fit I am going to buy the transmission. In a post you suggested 124 throttle body with cable, On the E 320 I have it is cable throttle with electric kick down below the pedal and I am not sure about cable kick down. Thanks again

 I ended up buying a 722,4 transmission from low mileage 190E 2.6. Should arrive next week. Pulled engine and transmission again to remove 722.6. Would rather do the trans swap out of the car, will go over new trans install new filter and gaskets, and install in one piece. |
