Hi troops.
I bought this last weekend.
Intended to keep but am offering it up to someone who may have the time / space / skill here before I put it away.
Baby #4 is due in 11 days and realistically, having time to ‘car’ was ambitious at best. Even finding time to have my mate look over it to sort a couple of the issues I wanted to sort is proving difficult and that’s only going to get worse.
So - its a cool old beast.
89,000 miles recorded. It’s likely to be genuine, I think.
It’s British racing green. It has XJR wheels with tyres that are maximum 20% worn.
It has MoT to Jan 2021.
It drives pretty well! It’s soft and wafty as you’d expect, with finger light steering.
I’ve driven it about 300 miles or so, and I’ve actually really enjoyed it.
What needs doing:
It has an exhaust blow, appears to be from the right hand cat.
That’s the only ‘urgent’ thing. I suppose it’s not urgent but it sounds a bit rubbish, given it should be pretty much silent. The cat (assuming it’s not something simpler) is £125.
Other things:
NS mirror glass delaminated. These are £15 or so on eBay.
NSR arch is bubbling. Not all the way round but it’s going.
Where the front mudguards have trapped water, there’s a bit of rust on each side. Not loads.
A few other spots of rust but nothing awful. I’m quite critical.
There’s are probably a couple of other bits but these are certainly the main things I’ve noticed.
Interior is pretty good. Really comfortable.
Engine is smooth and starts up perfectly with no smoke. Doesn’t overheat. Gearbox is smooth. It’s not a fast car! It’s wafts very nicely though.
Air con doesn’t ‘seem’ to get cold.
Wheels are fairly good but there’s a bit of corrosion on each. They are straight.
There’s a brake vibration, not awful, but noticeable, above 50 mph or so.
There are no warning lights, they all illuminate then go out after starting.
It has some history, nothing significant that’s recent although the owner before last (or maybe one before that) said it had tensioners / chain bits done, the thermostat is the metal upgraded version so it’s had bits done.
It could used as is (I’d want to do the cat fairly soon...) or fixed up to be really quite nice as it is generally pretty straight.
I have outdoor storage available so if it doesn’t sell I’ll do a few of these bits in a few months once baby is settled in at home. I wanted to offer it up on here to someone who does have skills / time as it ‘deserves’ sorting.
The plate will be swapped back to R213VRH.
