Bit more progress last night on tidying some bits up now the swap is done. Bought an is200 weather shield for the trans tunnel and set about making it fit 🤙🏻 Measured up and made a plate with some captive bolts. Trimmed it all up and set it in the car. Didn’t wanna weld or grind inside the car so gave it the clamps and let it set over night 🤟🏻 I’ll schmoo the seal today now I know it’s set in the right place then paint it later (probably brush on smooth white hammerite). Going to stick a nice square of audio sound deadening on the tunnel make sure it’s even more quiet. Cheers!

Only a small one. Chucked the peddle assembly in and it worked but the clutch was too far toward the floor before I got engagement. Took the lower panel off and adjusted the nut on the plunger a little. Looked at some old pictures of where it was sat before and have it 5mm or so. Much better now 🤙🏻 Also added some foam sound deadening to the big space I had now because of the lack of rear vents. Centre console back in so the next job is to make a new gear surround for the job after my fancy shifter and relocator turn up from AUS (which should have been today 🙄) cheers

Could you reuse the auto surround with a universal leather gator?

Could you reuse the auto surround with a universal leather gator? Wish I could mate cause mine is in mint Nick but I’d have 3” unused space at the back and not be able to get 1st, 3rd or 5th 😭 so ima have to make a new one with the hole about 3-3.5” further forward and maybe a 10mm to the right. I’ve got a space console though I’ve thought about covering it with the leather from that if it’s big enough 🤞🏻

Nothing major to report. Fixed a couple niggles today with the decat pipes I made and had to take them off a reweld them. Had a few holes that were leaking and getting sooty. Ground them back. Rewelded at my mates garage with his big boy mig and back on the car sealed up again. Couldn’t hear any leaks on the way home which was nice! Can also see how close the bleed nipple should have been to a standard cat. My replacement plug turned up for the speed sensor too (it’s cracked). Need to re pin it for the speedo to work hopefully and kill two birds with one stone on that one too. (One of my mates, mates helped me with that one who’s a wiring/1UZ guru, very helpful 🤙🏻) Cheers

Into finishing the nitty gritty bits off now. re-pinned the speed sensor to actually “work” with a new plug and pins. Although, there’s a big but, the car uses a 20 pulse signal converted by the combination meter to 4 pulses before it reaches the ecu and subsequently the speedo. The J160 uses a 4 pulse signal so though the speedo “works” when doing 50mph it only reads 10mph (hence the 20/5 = 4). I have been looking at converters and it seems nothing will do the 500% increase I’m asking of it. Lots of head scratching still to be done on this one. I really want a working OEM speedo in the car 🤙🏻. Although I did drop my template and top cover off worth my mate to 3D scan and print a new one with the shifter hole in the right place for me to get covered in some nice wood or leather to finish the interior. Cheers 🤙🏻

Could you use 2 signal convertors in series? I know a very good electrician that's not for from you if you want to give him a bell.

Haha this made me chuckle to myself, I wish it was that easy and I could do that! Thanks for the kind words mate! I'm happy with it for a DIY english teacher by trade kinda skill level

Could you just bypass the converter? Might be reading it wrong though. Is this the problem? Stock setup: 20 pulses->converter->4 pulses->gauges Current setup: 4 pulses->converter->0.8 pulses->gauges If so, then cutting out the converter should sort your problem hopefully it's not buried somewhere in a circuitboard somewhere...

I’ve thought about this but I’m not sure what else the combination meter does on the car so I need to look into it more. If it’s nothing I can’t see why I can’t bypass it. If it does do other jobs (which wouldn’t surprised me) I might have to work around it 😅

Ah I see. If it does other things you could leave that in place, but splice in a second wire and connect that to the speedo bypassing the converter.
Will take a bit of fathoming out of the wiring, but might work!
