Handbrake induced reverse entry 3rd gear skids incoming!!!! I can almost smell the burnin rubber and see the look of terror on your face after you realise you've scuffed an alloy or rolled a tyre off the rim 😂😂
Crimped/bridged the neutral switch and wired in the reverse light switch in with some connectors so I can replace it if I ever need to.
Also connected the ls400 end of the handbrake switch to the is200 end so that the handbrake warning light will work and ran the wiring.
Trimmed the aircon duct (I’ll fill this back in later with a flat square of plastic) so I could see how all the Centre console would now live back together.
Also fitted the heater duct under the dash which by a complete guess fits pretty much bang on 😂
Also offered the handbrake gaiter you to see how tidy I’d look tucked between the Centre console and the Seat.
Still waiting on my bolts and handbrake fitting to move on so I’m at the mercy of the postman. As soon as the handbrake fitting comes I can put all the Centre console together and I’ll need the box mounted to have the prop made, to then fit the exhaust, so I can plug the lambdas back in to refit the carpet 🙄
Decided to carry on plugging away despite it being -125 outside (or at least it feels like it).
Rather than make a full new crossmember I decided to use shims on the original ls400 crossmember (that still lined up and fits the 200 box 🤙🏻) as the is200 rubber ive got to use is physically way thicker (on the ls400 the mount attaches flat to the bottom of the box).
This is as high and level as I could get the box while still physically fitting it in the car. Spirit level seems to think it’s between 0/1 degree when it makes its mind up as I don’t have a super fancy one. So that’ll do for me 🤙🏻
This is the clearance on the shifter tower in the car to allow for some movement that all the mounts might have under load.
Then I decided to fit some nice weather proof two pin plugs under the car. Might seem silly as you can see two plugs on the ends already. The lambdas actually use a rubber grommet in the floor and the end grey plug is buried under the drivers and passenger carpet. It’s an ordeal peeling the carpets back every time I might wanna take the exhaust off so decided to remedy it now. This also means I can put all the inside of the car and carpets back now and leave the exhaust off while I make decat pipes (need these to clear the slave on the pass side 😅) then plug them in last under the car (like any other normal car does 🤦🏻♂️).
Oh and last but most certainly not least. All these 3 bits should become one by the end of the week. They’re all at greno garage and engineering so hopefully I’ll have a working driveline sometime soon.
Crimp on handbrake fitting to arrive and some decats to make and we’re jobbed 🤙🏻
Another one (Dj Khalid voice for all you that know).
Postman came. All the bits for the decat pipes are here including a part of my old 2.25” Daihatsu exhaust 😂👌🏻
Took the handbrake cable to a place locally to see if they could swage the end on. Hopefully get it back tomorrow 🤙🏻
You can see there’s too sizes. 3mm the wire won’t fit in and 4mm the wire is baggy (go figure 🤦🏻♂️) id like the smaller one squeezing on if possible so I’ve left him with it but the pics give you the idea 🤷🏻♂️.
Also wrapped the exposed plugs/lambda looms In Tessa rape and then that expensive gold stuff. Just because I’ve got some And it can’t hurt to protect the wires a little more 🤙🏻
Now I can’t actually drop the exhaust without going under the carpet ever again.
If the handbrake cable comes back tomorrow I can put the whole of the interior back together for good. Then I’m just waiting on the prop and I can fit the exhaust and make the decats.
Got the handbrake cable back today and something got lost in translation so the guy who swaged the end on did it a little too long. Concept works but I’ll need a 30mm shim to tighten against. No harm no foul it’ll work when the shim arrives.
Had to modify the Centre console a little bit everything else fits back as it did before. I’ll have to make a new wooden shifter cover but hey ho I knew this might be the case when I started 🤙🏻
This is how the gaiter sits and works with the console in. I need to trim the unused thread off the end of the cable when my shim comes too to it’ll fit nicer.
Also fitted the dash plastics in the footwell too seen as it’s all buttoned up under there. Some lucky guesses with the plastics and the pedal 😂
There’s been a delay with the prop due to the concept (wanting you keep the Centre bearing) the snow and just general covid 🤷🏻♂️ Few bits I can crack on with under the car in the meantime while I wait 🤞🏻
Cut the trans cooler lines off to make it easier to get the auto box out. These needed tidying and getting rid of. They were a nightmare to get out even cut but once out I used a small straight section and bridged the two rubber pipes together and cable tied them up. Even though they now go to fresh air it seemed the tidiest fix.
Through my own stupidity I managed to knick a PAS line with the flap wheel when sorting the manifold studs out. Had to take both pipes off mine to get the one I wanted out. Turns out the pipe I got to place is off a year newer car and they changed the design so it can be taken out on it’s own. Need to get some new copper washers and it can go back together tomorrow. Top pipe is the one you can’t get out on it’s own from a 92, bottom one is the new one that you can remove from a 93. Checks out really 🤷🏻♂️
Went to see my guy at the local hydraulics place and got a new PAS pipe on the rack I managed to clip. They could’nt do the black protective sheathing so I fitted some thermo sleeve and got both back fitted 🤙🏻
decided seen as it was out of fluid I’d replace the rebuilt pump and give Matt the one I borrowed off him back 😂
faffed a few faffs and replaced the foam on the intake so it’s actually air tight as the old stuff was perished and long gone.
all back together ✅
literally just waiting for my prop really, so this is me for the foreseeable future 😅
Got the box filled up with fluid today and fired her up on the manifolds 😂
Overdrive light is flashing so may have to bridge that connector on the tunnel and the reverse lights done work despite being wired up right. More investigation to do, I’m sure they’ll be something else with this car that makes them work 🤷🏻♂️
put the last of the engine covers on and modified one to slip in and be able to get the the new clutch reservoir.
