Front wheel bearings of that type always do that when you press the hub out. Nothing to worry about. Stick it in the vice, cut the inner bearing race nearly all the way through with a slitting disc. One sharp knock with a chisel and a BFH in the newly slit, slit and it will split the inner race and fall off🤣🤣 Just be careful when you press the new bearing in. Make sure to press on the outer race when you push the bearing into the upright, and make sure you have something supporting the inner race when you press the hub in. Otherwise the hub will vandalise the new bearing to death and it will suffer from separation anxiety.... I pressed the one out of the spare strut, drilled and tapped the disc screw and cleaned it up on Sunday to make it a quicker job yesterday. But will do that to this one and put to one side for the next time! I was most upset that the bearings were only a week or two old, even if they were only £8 each

Small update, worked from the front of the van back and so the last remaining untouched part is the tailgate. It was swapped from an estate on 26th June 2002 just after the previous owner bought it and sprayed garnet red, but like my paint repairs is a slightly different shade. It’s also reacted and crazed, and there are a few rust lumps that don’t look too bad, but there is also some streaking below the rear glass. It may be fine, but won’t know until the glass is removed. I got another tailgate for free, but that is definately rusty, I can see the rust... Keith gtviva had a NOS tailgate, and so I bought that, but haven’t been able to collect until lockdown eased a bit. Yesterday Tom and me went for a trundle and collected it.... thanks for the socially distance hospitality (and the assistance ) I also got some window trim rubbers for the front and rear screens too I do like brand new stuff in genuine bags that’s not been available for at least 15 years On inspection, the tailgate has trim clips for a plastic trim at the bottom of the tailgate. I’m going to see if I can get hold of that trim, but if not assume the clips can be cut off and ground back? And today, since Lucy is on a long day shift and I was fed up of listening to neighbours dogs yapping and other people’s music I thought I’d join in by having another go at the nearside arch repair! Who doesn’t love the sound of a grinder? The previous repair had the inner arch welded to the swage of the outer arch because I couldn’t work out what else to do with it, but when I sorted the other rear arch with repair panels it became obvious what I had done wrong. It was fine, but the bumper mounts had to go through both the inner and outer arches with a fixing and this meant there was a potential rust point as the fixing had to go through at 45 degrees. So we chopped that out and had another go, I had a go at making a bit of a repair panel in the week So cut the old repair out and tried again Panel welding is getting better It was ground back, painted etc and the rear bumper fitted The bumper gap is getting wider toward the arch, so next time the bumper is off I’ll need to slot the holes slightly I think Until next time..........

Was also an excuse to try out the welding PPE that I only bought when I’d finished the welding And does anyone know how to get seam sealant out of ones lockdown beard?.... preferably before 8.30 when if it’s still there, it will be obvious I’ve been fixing the van again

Did Lucy tell you to say that its like the question about the tree in the forest...... if I grow a lockdown beard and shave it before I get to meet my mates in a pub for a pint, did I even grow it? And every week I think how nice it would be to shave, but then that’s [currently 11 weeks?] of itchy beard I’ll have put up with for nothing

I normally have a bit of stubble, because I’m scruffy and it’s easier to run clippers over my face every week or so than shave daily... The itchy bit came whilst I was stressed about life/work at the start of lockdown, so wasn’t sleeping particularly well anyway. It got a bit better, it got itchy again, etc etc... it nearly went on Friday, but someone told me to get some beard conditioner... so I ordered some, hopefully here soon But that’s another reason I can’t shave, It was suggested I stop being a fox picture and have a shave rather than spending £6 on ‘hipster grooming products’

Those wheels & tyres are miles too good for that old van that you have John - you going have to get your finger out and do something about bringing the rest of it up to scratch in order the match the wheels (Said very, very tounge in cheek)

Hi John, I have throughly enjoyed reading this whole thread, I’m in Flitwick so hopefully I will see you around, I always look out for retro cars 😁👍🏻. Your metal work that you done on the rear wing and sill section are really good I hope that I get my welding somewhere close to yours.
Anyway I just thought I would come and say hi and keep up the great work! I shall look forward to seeing your future antics.
All the best and keep safe.
Steve.

Thank you, having seen your arch repairs though I don’t think you are any worse than I am There are more antics to come! Didn’t get much time at the weekend, there is a plan for some *ahem*paint correction, and to paint the new tailgate, so I’ve removed the rubbing strips and cleaned up the adhesive and any rust and then hydrate80ed And then ran the hot air gun over them to make them a little blacker. Once the paint work has been given a going over then they can go back on. Also got some 1” weld mesh, and am going to attempt to remake a window grill... but no photos of that yet

only just noticed , you have been diddled 2 holes per wheel!!! Yeah, the first one I got was the same.... I got given a couple of wheels, that were supposed to be Corsa steels, but was easy to check as they had additional holes I bet there is a room full of additional holes somewhere in Luton or Ellesmere Port I shall fit them this week, at the very least to check them. They were fine with 205/55s so should be fine.

Shame I didn't know about the window grill, I have got a selection we could have tried on the tailgate, if you want send me a picture with dimensions of the glass and I can have a measure to see if any come close

I have only been doing little bits of tinkering not enough for a post. It’s good to see your doing your own paint this is something I am going to try myself eventually so I will be watching with great interest. I to have used the paint stripping heat gun trick on my bumpers unfortunately they faded back again and looks patchy particularly the rear the front comes up really well with some Chrome bumper product. Definitely all good fun though! you get extra brownie points for using your van as an everyday work horse 👍 keep up the great work. Steve.

Boiled Linseed oil Peanut butter Even old engine oil works if you clean it off after All of them knock the spots of "back to black" efforts
