Well I'm not quite sure if it's quite qualifies for "retro" status yet but heres my 2001 X-Reg Peugeot 306 GTI-6. Now over the last 15 years I've had over 10 different 306 GTI-6's/306 Rallyes including 2 supercharged versions but for the last 5 years I've switched alliances to the other baguette brigade in the form of Renault Megane R26 and a Megane Renaultsport 250. An impending house move now means I'll have my very own garage where I can tinker to my hearts content and what better house warming gift can you get than a 19 year old french car right? The car in question turned up locally and is a relatively low owner low mileage example. Previous owner has had the car for 11 years and now moved onto something newer in the for of an 308 GT. When I went to see the car next to it was parked another 306 this time an 1999 V-Reg XSI model that the previous owner had bought to pilfer spares from. Deal was done for the GTI-6 and the guy kindly chucked the XSI in the price instead of just scrapping it. Plans are just to slowly tidy it up and restore it as I go along. Pics of the 2 cars together

You may get people moaning about them, but not from me . The oldest GTi-6 will now be around 24 years old in Phase 1 form. Yikes! I loved my GTi-6. Yours being a 2001 is a very late example. Many of these have been scrapped for their brakes and their engines by 205 owners. A shame as they're such a great car Mine was China Blue . Mine was quite a tidy example. It was stock bar a Jetex cat-back exhaust .

The 306 & 309 are Classics just as the 205 and 106 are from the age when each manufacturer actually designed each model of car they produced and cars were individual not like the boring no fun S**t boxes that are every where now.
It will be nice to follow your restoration of this Welcome.

Don't think I've seen a GTI-6 in this colour before, seen loads of blue ones and black ones years back.
ChasR is spot on about these got broken to donate bits to 205s, I had GTI-6 front brakes for my 205.

ChasR is spot on about these got broken to donate bits to 205s, I had GTI-6 front brakes for my 205. It was only used on the Phase 3s, which I think were only out for 1 year in the GTI-6 range. IIRC, the Phases went as follows: -Phase 1 1996-7: Square foglights, early front lights (2 piece indicators and headlights) with the heavily bolstered seats. Diablo Red, Silver and a Blue I've forgotten were available. -Phase 1997-1999: This had the facelift front end, with the early versions having the heavily bolstered seats (also sometimes called Phase 1.5s). They also gained a digital odometer. I "think" the Bronze Orange colour first came out in this generation -Phase 3 1999-2000(ish): The headlights became Crystal lights. The earlier blue was replaced with a similar, but richer China Blue, like mine. I think Diablo Red stayed, and Moonstone Blue, which is what this car is (the silvery Blue) was only ever used in the Phase 3. The Phase 3s were made for that long IIRC. Out also went the ABS proportioning valve on the rear beam and in came an Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) system for the Phase 3. Originally, I wanted a Phase 3. However, these days, it's between a Phase 1 and a Phase 3 . The one thing I remember with these was the in-gear acceleration. The 6th gear was not really a cruiser gear. It was a means to get as much acceleration out of the car. This video may convey that from mine . It then had a PiperCross Induction kit fitted: Sorry for the curse word video and the minor hijack! In my defence, video quality wasn't as easy or as cheap to get now back in 2008! It gives perspective though. Back then my M3 was sold to its second owner for £11k on 90,000 miles, and I sold the GTi-6 a year later for £1.8k. I've not seen similar age cars now go for similar money.

Thank you all for the interest in my project.
I'm no stranger to killing a 306 as I must have killed at least 20 and another 10 Xsara VTS' in the last 15 years.
They are becoming quite rare and sort after and maybe the next 205 if prices continue to climb.

The only pug I had was a 405. Handled like a shopping trolley until i put some decent wheels and tyres on it. Transformed it, and if that was anything to go by i can imagine these 306's are great fun when sorted. I'll keep an eye on this.

I was just looking at those yesterday... Well if you want one here it's 5000-9000€ depending on its state. Used car prices in France tend to be higher, but sporty cars from the 90's are just really expensive now! Even that parts SXi looks quite nice, take care of them

Years ago I wanted a 309 GTi16, but the prices in France (the home market for them) are just crazy!

I was young, it had a Skip Brown suspension kit (all 2.5k of it) and it was driven at maximum attack constantly. I went through a couple of lift pumps, an engine mount, and more tyres and brake pads than I’d care to admit but nothing else ever gave bother. I sold it, and the next owner had it until a bit over 300k miles with no major issues. Great cars.

Love these, great car and massively underrated at the time. They were better than the ST170 and the fat mk4 golf Yup, it’s why I bought one. A mate bought a full fat ST170, and the GTI-6 delivered the bigger smile to my face. That said, it was easy to see why they weren’t taken quite as seriously. Even on 1999, the dashboard was looking very dated compared to a Focus; the 1.6 Focus Zetec I had before had a nicer interior and better HVAC system. The Golf obviously was similar here and with Turbo power. But I reckon the GTI-6 interior has aged well. I am almost fancying another. But the fact that the M3 can do similar MPG.on a run to the GTI-6 (even an E36 and E30 can) shows some of the reasons why these weren’t favoured as much. Still, a great car nonetheless regarding dynamics and it being a car .
