On Saturday I rescinded the SORN on the Corsair and during the process I checked the electronic box agreeing that the car was not substantially modified as it was over 40 years of age and then finished the process, I then had a message that conformed the SORN had been rescinded. Sunday I checked to see that it had all gone through and the gov website said it was taxed as they put it but no confirmation on the MOT status, same on Monday, yesterday it changed to as it is below but does this mean that it is now MOT exempt?
Does anyone what MOT status this indicates as it doesn't tell me much?
Any help in clarification appreciated.

Its over 40 years old so it will default to MOT exempt , my Clan has that status yet its not been anywhere near the road since the 1987!

It's exempt but will show as not MOTd if you do an MOT check on it. I just looked at the MOT history of that and was bemused to see advisories for fuel gauge low, boot light missing and parking light not working, Corsairs never had parking lights, boot light isn't part of the test and fuel gauge low, ffs. BTW does it have a V4 in it?

Yep, automatically exempt if you have changed the status to historic vehicle to get free tax. If it wasn't MOT exempt you wouldn't be able to tax it even for free I think as you can't tax a car without a valid MOT. James

Have you had to apply for historic status at the post office to get free tax?

It has had that status for twenty years already historic vehicle on the V5 I was expecting to see something like "MOT Exempt" when checking on the website and was not sure what I was seeing was correct.

Ah, I’m just getting ready to put my car on the road. It was 39 when last used so needed an MOT and tax, my MOT history has disappeared now too, but still asks for £88 quid tax because I haven’t applied for historic status. So going to apply now before I use it.

That will take a few weeks to sort out but will be worth it for you.
If you sort it out after your more it will be easier for you.

Worth a quick check from memory we just made a trip to the post office and filled out the form and waited a week for new documents. Ours was on the road (expensively) taxed and MOTed for a year or so first though. James

If you MOT check a car less than 3 years old it gives you the same green box. So to me the system knows it doesn’t need a MOT as it would be a red box with MOT expired if it needed a MOT.

Will do it when my new insurance certificate comes through for this years. Downloaded the v112 form for mot exemption .

And the V4 engine sound is, I think, one of the best.

Downloaded the v112 form for mot exemption . I taxed my bike last year, it had just passed 40 years old and I hadnt been for MOT. I had to pay for the tax but didnt use a V112, just explained to the lady who taxed it no problem without MOT. What I'm saying is that I don't know if the form is required, maybe it should be and the lady didnt know but I had no problem. Free tax next month though if I understand correctly.

I just checked my Capri which is SORN and as today it should be Tax Exempt (i've been looking at the same writing on the DVLA website since last Feb) I quote - "If you do not know when your vehicle was built, but it was first registered before 8 January 1979, you can still apply to stop paying vehicle tax." mine was built 26th Nov 79 so, I guess this has stopped rolling or, theres that much going on at the moment its not been updated? Just a side note incase anyone else is waiting for this. Anyway mine says the same! so I guess if i tax it (sort the brakes and running issues out ) I can drive it

It changes in April so I guess it’ll be changed to 1980 soon but it has been forgotten for several months previously (but it’s still rolling). Unfortunately there’s no online option and you have to go to the Post Office to change the V5C to Historic Class.
