so it started with the purchase of a mini shell for the princely sum of £20 and a 4 hour round trip to somerset the plan was to get it rebuilt and roadworthy with no time scale it sat in my garden for two years untouched full of water in the mean time i ot two other minis a genuine ex race mk3 clubman in pink and a mini city 100 that had been in the guys drive under a tarp for at least ten years and remarkably solid
anyway the 20 pound shell was going to be cut up for sections until my mrs said that i don't normaly give up on things and that i should build it into something as that would be more satisfying and rewarding than building 1 in better condition to start with and ive run with it ive done quite a lot of work redid some bits through change of mind or not happy with the work ect
so we are at the stage where i have fitted a complete new bulkhead new full inner wings a new full floor new heel board new door aperature panels [the actual frame of the shell the door fits into] now when i say fitted everything is tec screwed in place a few spot welds here and there so panels can be removed should my plans change during this time i came across this pic on the internet wich i really liked and ive also got a fortec wide arch/quarter kit
and this pic is not my car but shows the fortec kit

so i had no running gear for this shell but i do have a red top motor freshly built with twin 45 webber carbs meant for another build and i could front mount it. front wheel drive but torque steer seems to be a big problem with these conversions.. then i thought about front mount but rwd and i started looking into it a little the plan was to get sierra cossie 2wd rear subframe complete and rework the shell and fab from scratch a boot floor to suit it as the boot thats in it at the moment is rotten as hell anyway then i found this ford based kit car chassis and thought about mating the shell and chassis together after modifying it adding to it and generally prettying it up so it looks a little more racy and fit for purpose

so this is kind of where we are at with things atm the plan is to fit box section along te underside of the minis door steps the length of the original floor/inner cill weld the outrigger on the chassis to the box section and add another in the middle and at the front weld thos in placeadapt the front of the chassis by 300mm so the wheel centres are the same as the mini and build a cage onto this tied into the a and b pillars ime not worried about the extra width of the ford stuff as the mini is going to be wide anyway with either steel box arches as in the pic above or the fortec kit

Love a fortec kit on a clubby😁
Had a similar plan with a Sierra rear subframe about 20 years ago but life got in the way🙄
Watching with interest.... Wish I could find a mini shell for beer money!!😬

This makes me miss my old mini. Such a fun thing to drive at legal limits.
This is my kind of build thread, good luck with it!

thanks guys much appreciated so the outriggers on the rolling chassis are 35 and 1/2 inches = 901.7mm my inner box section/inner sill to inner cill width is 1230mm so 328.3 mm to spare i will make new out riggers the correct length x6 and bobs your uncle
the rear strut mount towers outside to outside are 647.7mm i havent measured the shell yet but i know i have a good ten inches inner wheel arch to inner wheel arch as i cut a peice of box to brace the shell between them a while back the rear towers i may remake and widen the as that way i wont have to lose the boot floor wich altho being completely refabbed with the towers as they are are right in the middle if i move them 5 inches either side further out i could fit them roughly the original place

so having a look at the track on both a sierra and amini it would appear at the rear there is a 265 mm difference between them i think the fortec kit gives around 5 inches per side

Very interesting project that. Most rwd minis are bike engined I gather. Even one here in Ireland being rallied.
