I'm running a AJ30 in my kit car, great engine. They are simple to run on aftermarket management, all you need wired up is crank sensor, throttle position sensor, coolant temp, inlet air temp and it will run lovely using a Mondeo wasted spark coilpack. I've got VVT coming on at 1800rpm and going off at 5800rpm, as it restricts top end power with it on. Rev limiter is set at 7100rpm and it hits it with ease still showing the power is rising on the RR. Made 286bhp.

Did yours use much oil Chas? Both our Mavericks have done, not a lot but if you didn't check it between services probably enough to knacker the bearings prematurely due to a lack of sufficient lubrication, running as hot as possible to keep the emissions down didn't do them any favours either, ours ran better when I played with the electric fan to cut in earlier. This would be down to the piston rings not being graded at the factory I assume. Depending on the tolerances of the boring process, the rings may need to be graded. But most pistons come with the rings on and then are fitted into the engine. Head gaskets and bottom end bearings tend to be graded however.

They do run hot. Very hot! The 1st set of fans cut in at 100 degC, with the second stage at 108! Obviously, if you pop a hose, it's not going to be great on the engine, and this is why I never took any chances with the cooling system on the second Mondeo. It seemed to pay off to be fair.

I have an AJ30 with the stype manual gearbox fitted in my BMW E30. For engine management, I did manange to get it going on factory management and I can probably get the wiring diagram I cobbled together if I dig through my files enough, I used a cheap ebay FPR to get the fuel pressure.. however, I has having "headroom" issues with the factory abomination that is in the jag, so I used the intake off an ST220, cut the flange that the throttle body fixes to and flipped it (I will get pictures if youre interested in what I mean) so that it could be fitted with it facing forwards. had to move the oil filler neck to the other bank of cylinders too. anyway, after doing all this, it was low enough for the bonet to close, but with the variable intake valves disconnected the ecu put itself into limp mode, and I had no worldly clue how to get around that.. It was at this point I was told about a company throwing these engines into MX5s, they are called rocketeer, and have helped me out loads with my build. they use an ME442 from motorsport electronics, and used to take orders for the loom already terminated, but I don't know if they still do, they may have changed who they use for management now. The ME442 is also capable of controlling the VVT closed loop or switched. I beleive the peak power gains arent all that notable with the VVT, but the torque starts lower down the rev range, so it can just be left unplugged. I have included links to ME and rocketeer. www.rocketeerltd.com/motorsport-electronics.co.uk/products/universal-engine-management-systems/me442-wire-in-engine-management/

Barely touched X30XE and R28 gearbox in an MGB Vectra sump, fabricated engine mounts, headers and water rail, moved the alternator. Stock management, clutch, gearbox. Makes only slightly less power than a Jag V6

Sorry only just seen this. I'm running standard AJ30 lower inlet manifold,I've modified the Jag dead end fuel rail by welding in AN fittings so now run a standard FPR rather than the Jag ECU controlled one. Upper inlet manifold is a ST200 Mondeo one which ive made an adapter plate to allow it to bolt onto the AJ30 lower inlet manifold.

I'm looking at fitting this engine in a race car, room is not a problem so won't need to adjust or change much but would appreciate it if you could find the diagrams you have for the wiring so I could use the factory ecu like you did.
