Which came first @grumpynorthener the real thing or the Hot Wheels car? I have no clue. Most certainly the real thing which was completed in 1963 - known as the 'Dream Rod' it was built upon a shortened 'Jowett Jupiter' chassis fitted with a VW front axle and re-engined with a V8 - see the last two pages of my Javelin thread in the Readers Rides section for more info

I never had no idea that was based on a real car. Bonus interesting points for it being based on a Jowett!

The one that I always remember from my 70`s childhood is Pastyereyes Express, a 3.5 V8 Rover engined milkfloat. Quick Google brought up these couple of images. The milk float was built by Ray Christopher who built many crazy one off show cars in the 70's / 80's. He also had a company call Ray's Rods which produced Glass Fibre Ford C CAB bodies and also 1933 Plymouth 5 window coupe bodies. The red 33 Plymouth coupe parked next to the milk float was one of the first to come out of the mould and be built and was resprayed green by the builder on the 1st January 1979 so this pic was taken between 1976 and 1978. I bought the 33 coupe in 2005 and the pic in my avatar is another old pic I found from way back in maybe the 80's.

I knew it needed restoration but had no idea it had been allowed to deteriorate that much, shame!

Most of these are great examples of "just because you can, doesn't mean you should"!
One person who doesn't follow that is MasterMilo82 on YouTube - he's done pushme-pullyou Clios, a couple of RollGolfs, and the Wipkar, all worth checking out...

So what is so unusual about it ? Well originally it looked like one of these and was then converted from a kit of parts taken from a wreck of a Jowett Bradford van - but the really, really clever bit is that the little 2 cylinder 950cc boxer engine is 'Supercharged' - a master class of early modified backyard automotive engineering - catch it if you can (yes it is that quick) - want to see it in the flesh - its on the Jowett Car Club stand Hall 5 Stand 615 at the NEC Restoration Show 27th - 29th March 2020 - First time it has been seen in public since being imported from South Africa in 2019 where it spent most of its life
