	As a few people on here know I’m into 90s Mercs And with our escort van having an st engine install soon I decided I needed another car on the fleet We looked at a couple of 190E Mercs but I just didn’t get the feel on them like I do the W202 models We viewed four cars before we found this one advertised with a full and honest description Owned 14 years by the previous owner it’s a very tidy 220 petrol in metallic dark grey, lovely interior and most important of all hardly any rot on the body Just one small bit on the lower offside front wing which I’ll sort myself The bonnet has some lacquer peel,basically a great clean looked after old motor Plans are to get it sparkly clean and source a nice set of alloys and springs from a sport model to bring it down a bit This afternoon I gave it a quick snow foam and wash off with autofinesse products, a claybar and wax Saturday weather permitting and I want to get the engine bay clean and detailed A few pics from today

	I approve wholeheartedly of your latest purchase Dan! I too like a W202, but my R170 is currently my daily and I am rather liking the roof option Knowing you it'll have some good looking lowering and a decent set of wheels, as well as becoming super-clean and gorgeous. I had a work colleague who saved long and hard and bought a new one of these when they first came out. It was a basic black C180 but he was SO proud of his purchase.

	Looks like a good example, I knew there must be 1 out there that hadn't rusted away! We had a C180 manual estate as our run a round when I was an apprentice for a Merc Bodyshop. The engine and gearbox were awful but the car itself was great at motorway speeds. I gave it a full respray about 16 years ago and I saw it late last year with 240K Miles on the clock still going strong!

	Thanks for the reply’s the W202 is one of those cars that Is still around in good numbers but tidy examples are few and far between, since I bought my first one 8 years ago I’ve come to really rate them This is my fourth one , I’ve always owned fords since I was 15 but the W202 to me is a perfect car well engineered drives well and in my opinion a great looking car Although our fords will always be in the family and enjoyed at shows, the old W202s will always be around as well I’m looking forward to getting this one near perfect

	Looking good. I will have to have a root round in the shed as pretty sure I still have some w202 bits in there. Nice to see its one of the early w202 with the full sized glove box too. Great too see its a 220 as it always seems to be the 180 that are the tidy ones for some reason.

	A few hours done today Engine bay cleaned up nicely Gave the bodywork a good claybar then polished with autofinesse polish Just needs wheels and lowering a tad now Claybar picked up plenty of debris Always loved the full opening bonnet on the old Mercs easy access whilst cleaning

	Most of these seem to have wheel trims which I always though detracted from them.

	Couple of small jobs today oil and filter change Halfrauds currently have 30% off oil too Also stripped the front grille and sprayed the insert black Always makes them look better imo Waiting for the log book to arrive so I can transfer my plate on As it’s off road until then I fitted the plates on Just need some funds for springs now and rims

	I set a budget on getting this merc tidy and better looking So monoblock wheels were out of my price range Picked these up with very good tyres today £200 17” so will fill the arches nicely Got to pick up the alloy studs Sunday then I’ll get them on Then order some 40mm springs

	Not a bad choice of wheel Dan. I always went with a 5 spoke design on all my previous w202's. I do like monoblocks on the w202 shape but I could never warrant the cost of them either.

Yep I did find a set of monoblocks at £300 but they were in a terrible state, no good for home refurbing So I trawled eBay and got these wheels within my budget So quite happy tbh
